Job Description

Scope of work:

• Design, simulate, and optimize optical systems for visible, infrared (MWIR & LWIR), and multispectral imaging platforms, including telescopes and lenses.

• Develop and integrate thermal imaging camera systems, specifying MW/LW infrared sensors and calibration methodologies.

• Architect long-range electro-optical assemblies, ensuring precise alignment and superior imaging quality for surveillance or targeting.

• Develop and implement imaging algorithms for signal enhancement, target recognition, and sensor fusion to achieve application-specific objectives.

• Conduct hardware and software testing, performance validation, troubleshooting, and collaborate with mechanical and software teams for system-level optimization.

• Document all phases of design, including requirements, optics parameters, test protocols, analysis reports, and compliance with defence standards.

Key Skills Required:

• A strong foundation in optical engineering, sensor integration, and algorithm development to deliver high-performance imaging and sensing solutions

• Zemax/Code V (or equivalent), geometrical/physical optics, lens and telescope design, optical tolerancing, aberration correction

• In-depth knowledge of MWIR/LWIR sensors, radiometry, imaging camera calibration, IR lens materials and performance testing

• CCD/CMOS, IR sensor hardware and interfaces, experience with long-range imaging systems and synergy between sensor electronics and optics

• Implementation in MATLAB/C++, algorithm development for image enhancement, automated detection, and image fusion

• Alignment, calibration, experimental optics, handling test benches and standard lab instruments (e.g., interferometers, collimators)

• Analytical skills, troubleshooting hardware/software integration for imaging systems, optimizing system performance

Qualification:

A bachelors or master’s degree in optical engineering, physics, electronics, or a related field is generally required, with preference for advanced degrees and specialized experience in IR imaging, telescope design, or algorithm development
