Draughtsman

The Role

The Metal Works Draughtsman is responsible for translating architectural and engineering design concepts into detailed shop drawings and installation plans for a variety of metal components, such as steel structures, railings, staircases, canopies, ornamental facades, doors, windows and structural supports. This role requires precision, a strong understanding. of metal fabrication techniques, and software expertise to ensure that all finished products are accurate, constructible, and aesthetically aligned with the overall project design.

1. Produce comprehensive shop drawings, erection drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and cutting lists, lazer/machine drawings for custom metal fabrications (e.g., steel, aluminum, stainless steel).
2. Ensure all drawings reflect precise dimensions, material specifications, weld symbols, finishes, and connection details.
3. Utilize 3D modeling and 2D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, SolidWorks, or similar) to depict complex assemblies accurately.
4. Review architectural drawings, specifications, and structural engineer notes to verify the feasibility and accuracy of the metal works design,
5. Work directly with the team lead and Fabricators to resolve technical queries and detail issues throughout the design and construction phases.
6. Incorporate site-verified dimensions and design revisions efficiently and accurately.
7. Prepare and submit drawing packages for review and approval by architects, engineers, and clients.
8. Verify the accuracy of dimensions and tolerances to minimize errors, waste, and rework in the fabrication shop.

Required Qualifications & Skills

1. Education: Diploma or ITI in Architectural Drafting, Mechanical Drafting, Civil Draughting.
2. Experience: 1-5 years of proven experience as a Draughtsman.
3. Technical Skills: software expertise, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, SolidWorks.
