Overall Purpose of the job:- The team requires an experienced Digital Signal Processing Engineer to join a small team in support of their goal to deliver communications engineering and algorithmic design projects on time and within budget. Reporting to the project manager the role will cover the contribution to the full software life cycle, including creating high level and detailed DSP designs, developing prototype firmware DSP and sensor processing components using fundamental mathematical analysis, and subsequent debug and integration activities. Roles and Responsibilities:- 1. Work in a safe, responsible and cost effective manner, in full compliance with the company's safety manuals, Quality Assurance System and code of conduct. 2. Work with the project manager to determine scope, planning and scheduling of Digital Signal Processing Chain / Sensor data processing development tasks. 3. Develop ideas, design, and code for Signal Processing Elements of Firmware components used in the Expro range of products centred around communications engineering and sensor data processing. 3. Produce accurate and effective design documentation to support the implementation and test of system components. 4. Ensure the development of efficient and accurate DSP / Sensor processing components utilizing mathematical analysis, coding standards and best practises, to high levels of quality and maintainability in accordance with development methodology and release processes. 6. Attend meetings relating to aspects of the business which require engineering contribution. 7. The DSP components used within the Expro tools and associated equipment items are key to the overall reliability and performance of the communications and sensor processing elements of the systems. The ability to design and implement innovative and reliable signal and sensor processing components form a major part of the DSP engineer's role. 8. Conduct Mathematical analysis of proposed signal processing designs from high level block diagram and DSP architecture analysis through to developing models and algorithms for the communications and sensor processing elements of Expros designs. 9. Generation and documentation of component design 10. Implementation and module test of components and developing frameworks to test DSP / Sensor processing elements 11. Integration of modules and components into the target platforms 12. Ensure adherence to software development processes Job Knowledge and Qualifications: - A degree in engineering, combined with practical experience of software development, specifically: 1 Good knowledge of Digital Signal Processing and Sensor processing 2 Good knowledge of Mathematical analysis and Algorithm design in communications engineering and sensor processing 3 Desirable Matlab / Comsol experience ( or ability to learn having undertaken Mathcad / Octave / Ansys for communications engineer) 4 Good knowledge of C/C++ in embedded systems 5 Knowledge of developing firmware for microcontrollers 6 Experience of protocol design and implementation over one or more of the following; UART/RS485, USB, CAN, Ethernet]TCP/lP. 7 Knowledge of software design using UML 8 Good written and verbal communication skills 9 Self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of the wider engineering team 10 Desirable: Experience of modem software development methodologies & tools e.g. C++ patterns & meta-programming, static & unit test tools, scripting languages. 11 Experience of small volume high value product development
