Job Description – Dialysis Technician Job Title: Dialysis Technician Department: Nephrology / Dialysis Unit Salary: Attractive Salary Location: Malar Hospital, Hosur Reporting To: Nursing Superintendent. Job Summary: A Dialysis Technician is responsible for operating dialysis machines, monitoring patients undergoing treatment for kidney failure, and ensuring the safe and effective delivery of hemodialysis therapy. They play a crucial role in the care team by preparing patients and equipment, observing patient responses, and maintaining strict infection control protocols. Key Responsibilities: Set up and operate dialysis machines according to physician orders and unit protocols. Prepare and monitor patients for dialysis, including vital signs and access site condition. Cannulate dialysis accesses (fistulas, grafts, catheters) using sterile techniques. Monitor and document patient responses before, during, and after treatment. Ensure the safety and comfort of patients during procedures. Maintain, clean, and disinfect dialysis equipment and water treatment systems. Respond to and report any adverse events, alarms, or patient complications promptly. Follow infection control policies and procedures to prevent cross-contamination. Educate patients on dialysis care and dietary restrictions as instructed by the nurse or doctor. Maintain accurate records and assist with inventory management of dialysis supplies. Collaborate with nurses, nephrologists, and other healthcare professionals. Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited Dialysis Technician training program. Certification (CCHT, BONENT, or equivalent) preferred or required, depending on region. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Previous clinical experience in dialysis (preferred but not always required for entry-level roles). Skills and Competencies: Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety standards. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently. Familiarity with medical terminology and electronic health records. Physical ability to stand for long periods and assist with patient movement if necessary. Working Conditions: May involve working long shifts, weekends, or holidays. Exposure to bodily fluids and use of protective equipment is necessary. Requires mental alertness and physical stamina.
