Job Description

As a Development Engineer specializing in Chassis Tires, Wheels, and Assemblies, you will be responsible for the engineering design and development of various components such as Steel Wheels, Aluminum Wheels, Tires, Wheel Bolts, and Wheel & Tire Assemblies for current and new programs. Your role will involve following Stellantis product development processes, creating source packages, developing durability and functional objectives, and evaluating supplier readiness. You will also be tasked with guiding the CAE team in structural analysis to meet required fatigue life cycle, including fatigue load cases, NVH, and stiffness analysis. Collaboration with the SQE and suppliers will be essential for resolving part development challenges and ensuring timely KPIs are met for program quality gates. You will need to understand vehicle/subsystem functional objectives, interdependencies, and study packaging, serviceability, and cost implications. Regular visits to supplier plants for process review, sample preparation, and testing will be part of your responsibilities to ensure part specifications and quality are met. Your role will also involve understanding material properties, coating processes, and resolving assembly build issues by closely working with Stellantis plant and module suppliers. Supporting all engineering tests and production builds, addressing component, assembly, and vehicle field early warranty issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams will be crucial aspects of your job. You will drive value optimization initiatives, meet target cost savings, develop new local suppliers, and lead competitive benchmarking and innovation projects. To qualify for this role, you must hold a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering. Essential skills include a minimum of 6 years of Tire Design and Development experience with a Tire manufacturer or passenger car manufacturer (OEM), along with 8 to 10 years of overall experience in automotive OEM or equivalent in Wheels & Tires, W&T Assemblies Design/Development, or any other Chassis-specific area. Proficiency in Wheel & Tire testing, development, and homologation requirements is required, along with expertise in product development processes, supplier evaluation, tech review, DFMEA, DVP&R, control plan, PFMEA, and PPAP. Root cause analysis skills for parts under development and field return/warranty, familiarity with DFSS methodology, experience in Catia V5 modeling, and a good understanding of the functional science of Chassis subsystems are essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are crucial for effective collaboration with various stakeholders. Preferred experience includes knowledge of vehicle assembly processes, system and component tooling, and process experience, as well as expertise in casting, sheet metal, and forging processes. Simulation of manufacturing processes and knowledge of various chassis subsystems and vehicle dynamics will be advantageous.
