Design Engineer - Body Structures (BIW)

Role Overview: As a Design Engineer focusing on Body Structures (BIW) at Magna, your role will involve designing and developing Body in White components to meet performance, cost, and manufacturing goals. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust solutions with a focus on structural integrity, efficiency, and compliance. Your responsibilities will include 3D modeling, collaboration with various teams, support in preparation of DFMEA and validation plans, benchmarking, tolerance analysis, and interaction with suppliers. Key Responsibilities: - Design and develop BIW structures like pillars, roof rails, cross members, and floor panels - Create 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software (Catia V5/V6, NX, etc.) - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet product requirements - Support in DFMEA, DVP, and validation plan preparation - Incorporate crash, NVH, stiffness, and durability requirements in the design - Conduct benchmarking and cost optimization for BIW parts - Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T implementation - Interact with suppliers for tooling feasibility and part manufacturability - Support prototype build, testing, and root cause analysis of issues Qualification Required: - Educational Qualification: BE/DME in Mechanical/Production/Automobile stream - Work Experience: - BE: 3-6 years - DME: 5-7 years - Proficiency in CAD software (CATIA, NX) for designing BIW components - Understanding of BIW components like pillars, roof rails, etc. - Knowledge of joining technologies (spot welding, MIG welding, etc.) - Understanding of GD&T for proper fit and function of components - Familiarity with manufacturing processes like stamping, welding, and assembly techniques - Ability to prepare detailed 2D drawings with BOM, annotations, and tolerances Additional Company Details: Magna offers an engaging and dynamic environment where employees are provided with support and resources to succeed.
