Job Summary: The Shift In charge in a food processing unit is responsible for overseeing and managing the production floor during their assigned shift. This role ensures that production targets are met, the production process runs smoothly, and all food safety and quality standards are adhered to. The Shift In charge supervises a team of operators, manages equipment, coordinates with other departments, and resolves issues to ensure efficient and continuous production. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities: 1. Supervision of Production Operations: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the production floor during the shift, ensuring that production schedules are followed. Supervise and coordinate the activities of production operators, machine operators, and other staff to ensure a smooth workflow. Monitor the production line for any issues and take corrective actions to prevent delays or production stoppages. Ensure that the right raw materials are available and in use at the beginning of the shift and manage the production line effectively. 2. Quality Control & Food Safety: Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards such as HACCP, GMP, and other regulatory requirements. Conduct routine checks on product quality and ensure that finished products meet the required specifications. Address any quality issues immediately, reporting them to the production manager and working with the quality assurance team to resolve them. 3. Team Leadership & Employee Supervision: Lead and manage production staff during the shift, ensuring that they are working safely and efficiently. Provide training and guidance to new and existing employees on production procedures, safety protocols, and equipment use. Evaluate employee performance, provide feedback, and address any performance or behavioural issues. Maintain a positive and motivated team environment, fostering collaboration and teamwork. 4. Equipment and Facility Management: Ensure that all production equipment is in good working order and report any mechanical or operational issues to the maintenance team. Monitor machine performance and adjust settings or procedures to optimize efficiency. Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring compliance with safety and hygiene standards. 5. Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution: Identify and resolve issues related to equipment malfunctions, production delays, or quality defects during the shift. Work with the maintenance and quality teams to minimize downtime and ensure production continues without interruption. Report any significant issues or recurring problems to the Production Manager for further investigation. 6. Inventory Control: Monitor the usage of raw materials, packaging materials, and other supplies during the shift. Ensure that the inventory is replenished as needed and report any shortages or discrepancies to the inventory team. Ensure that the proper storage and handling of materials and products are maintained. 7. Health and Safety Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and guidelines on the production floor, ensuring that all employees wear the necessary protective gear and follow safety procedures. Conduct regular safety audits and report any hazards or unsafe practices to the management team. Address any accidents or injuries immediately and ensure that proper documentation and reporting procedures are followed. 8. Reporting & Communication: Maintain accurate records of production output, quality control checks, and any incidents during the shift. Provide shift reports to the Production Manager, detailing the status of production, any issues encountered, and key performance metrics. Communicate effectively with other departments, including maintenance, quality assurance, and inventory, to ensure smooth operations.
