Database Administrator

You will be responsible for the following key responsibilities: - Design, implement, and maintain highly available and scalable database architectures to support multiple backend modules. - Create and manage both relational and NoSQL schemas (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch) to efficiently store and retrieve large volumes of data. - Set up and manage replication, partitioning, sharding, and clustering strategies to ensure data scalability and high performance. - Define and maintain robust backup, restore, and disaster recovery plans. - Optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, and caching strategies using tools like Redis or Memcached. - Implement and enforce data security and compliance policies (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR) including encryption at rest and in transit. - Collaborate with backend developers to improve ORM query performance and optimize database connections (e.g., Hibernate, JPA, TypeORM). Your must-have technical skills include: - Solid hands-on experience with PostgreSQL (preferred) and MySQL. - Working knowledge of NoSQL databases like MongoDB or Cassandra, and search technologies such as Elasticsearch. - Familiarity with high-availability setups, replication, and data partitioning techniques. - Strong understanding of SQL, query optimization, and performance tuning. - Experience with cloud-managed databases such as AWS RDS/Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL, or Azure SQL. - Exposure to monitoring tools such as pgAdmin, Percona Toolkit, Grafana, or Prometheus for tracking DB health and performance. Additionally, nice-to-have / bonus skills are: - Experience with analytical databases or big data platforms such as ClickHouse or BigQuery. - Understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL pipelines, and data ingestion workflows. - Familiarity with infrastructure automation tools like Terraform, Ansible, or Liquibase for DB version control. Qualifications and Experience required: - Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. - 2-4 years of hands-on experience in database engineering, data architecture, or backend data design. Soft skills that are essential for this role include: - Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset. - Ability to collaborate effectively with developers, DevOps, and security teams. - Good communication and documentation skills, especially for maintaining database design artifacts and access policies.
