Database Administrator & Expert

As a PostgreSQL Database Administrator, you will play a crucial role in supporting product development teams by designing and managing scalable database schemas to build efficient and scalable data-driven applications for the container shipping industry. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with the product development team to design and maintain database schemas, optimizing query performance, and managing AWS Aurora PostgreSQL clusters. You will be responsible for designing database schemas that meet business and application requirements, maintaining data models for consistency and optimal performance, and implementing tables, indexes, and constraints to ensure high data integrity and performance. Additionally, you will analyze and optimize slow-running queries, tune PostgreSQL parameters for optimal performance, and work on improving database performance and addressing bottlenecks. As a PostgreSQL DBA, you will manage and administer AWS Aurora PostgreSQL clusters, ensuring high availability, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning. You will also optimize the use of cloud-based resources in AWS Aurora to ensure cost-effective and efficient use, monitor and maintain database systems in cloud environments, and ensure data security and availability. Furthermore, you will be responsible for ensuring that the database architecture complies with organizational security policies and best practices, implementing database encryption, user management, and access controls, and monitoring database security to address any vulnerabilities or compliance concerns. Automation of routine database tasks, documentation of database designs, performance optimizations, and providing technical guidance and training to developers are also key aspects of this role. To be successful in this role, you should have over 7 to 11 years of technology experience, with at least 5 years of experience in PostgreSQL database administration, including query optimization, schema design, and performance tuning. Strong expertise in PostgreSQL database design, SQL, PL/pgSQL, and advanced PostgreSQL features, as well as familiarity with AWS services and cloud database management practices, are essential. Proficiency in query tuning tools, database backup, recovery, replication, and failover strategies is also required. Additionally, you should possess excellent problem-solving skills, strong communication skills, and an engineering degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Experience with containerized databases using Docker or Kubernetes, event-driven architectures using Kafka, and CI/CD pipelines and Flyway Script would be a plus.
