Job Summary:
Job Summary
The CSSD Technician is responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments, medical equipment, and supplies to ensure patient safety and infection control standards within the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
Collect used surgical instruments and equipment from Operation Theatres, wards, ICUs, and other clinical areas
Perform cleaning, decontamination, and disinfection of instruments as per hospital protocols
Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage
Assemble and pack instrument sets according to standard procedures
Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, ETO, plasma, or other sterilizers
Monitor and document sterilization cycles and maintain accurate records
Ensure proper labeling, storage, and distribution of sterile supplies
Follow infection control policies, safety guidelines, and quality standards
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the CSSD area
Report damaged or malfunctioning instruments and equipment
Coordinate with OT staff, nurses, and other departments for timely supply
Comply with NABH/JCI and hospital accreditation standards
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma / Certificate in CSSD Technology or OT Technician course
Minimum 12 years of experience in a hospital CSSD (freshers may apply depending on hospital policy)
Knowledge of sterilization techniques, infection control, and medical instruments
Skills & Competencies
Knowledge of sterilization processes and equipment
Attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Good communication and teamwork skills
Basic computer knowledge for record keeping
Physically fit to handle instruments and stand for long hours
Working Conditions
Rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Exposure to contaminated instruments and sterilizing agents
Strict adherence to safety and infection control practices
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Compliance with sterilization and infection control protocols
Accuracy of documentation and records
Timely availability of sterile instruments
Audit and accreditation compliance
