Location: Churchgate Key Responsibilities: Food Preparation: Assists in the washing, peeling, chopping, and preparation of a wide range of fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds. Prepares ingredients for vegan protein sources (e.g., tofu, tempeh, lentils, chickpeas). Assists in the preparation of healthy sauces, dressings, dips, and marinades using fresh, wholesome ingredients. Learns and applies various cooking methods suitable for healthy and vegan cuisine (e.g., steaming, grilling, roasting, sautéing with minimal oil, raw food preparation). Portion ingredients accurately according to recipes and specifications. Kitchen Operations: Maintains a clean and organized workstation throughout the shift, adhering to strict hygiene standards. Assists with receiving and storing food deliveries, ensuring proper rotation (FIFO - First In, First Out) and labeling. Learns to operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and efficiently. Assists in general kitchen duties as required, including dishwashing, cleaning floors, and sanitizing surfaces. Recipe Adherence & Quality Control: Follows recipes precisely to ensure consistency in taste, texture, and presentation of vegan and healthy dishes. Learns about common food allergies and dietary requirements, ensuring cross-contamination is avoided. Assists in tasting and evaluating dishes to ensure quality and adherence to healthy/vegan standards. Learning & Development: Actively seeks to learn new culinary techniques and expand knowledge of vegan and healthy ingredients. Asks questions and takes initiative to understand kitchen processes and procedures. Responds positively to feedback and strives for continuous improvement. Attends training sessions and workshops as required. Teamwork & Communication: Works collaboratively with all kitchen staff to ensure smooth service and efficient operations. Communicates effectively with senior chefs regarding tasks, challenges, and progress. Maintains a positive and professional attitude within the kitchen. Qualifications & Skills: Essential: Basic culinary training or enrollment in a culinary program is highly desirable. Proven passion and interest in vegan, vegetarian, and healthy food. Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene principles (e.g., HACCP). Ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently when required. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Properly store and label all food items, ensuring correct temperatures and rotation (FIFO - First In, First Out). Monitor stock levels on your section and communicate shortages to senior chefs. Assist with receiving and storing deliveries, ensuring proper organization and quality control. Adhere to all food safety and health regulations, including temperature checks and allergen protocols (specifically for common vegan allergens like nuts, soy, and gluten). Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to a senior chef immediately. Teamwork and Development: Work collaboratively with all kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient service. Communicate effectively with senior chefs and colleagues regarding tasks, issues, and needs. Show eagerness to learn and take initiative in understanding various kitchen roles and vegan culinary techniques. Attend all required training sessions and team meetings.
