Summary :- We are looking for a Senior Plating Engineer with strong technical expertise in surface treatment and plating operations. This role is responsible for driving process optimization, quality assurance, and innovation in plating technologies. The ideal candidate will lead initiatives in process stability, troubleshooting, team mentoring, and compliance with customer and regulatory requirements. Role & responsibilities : Lead and oversee plating processes including electroplating (zinc, nickel, chrome), electroless plating, and conversion coatings. Ensure process capability, repeatability, and compliance with quality standards (IATF 16949, ISO 9001). Troubleshoot and resolve plating defects (e.g., discoloration, adhesion failure, uneven thickness) through root cause analysis and corrective actions. Optimize plating parameters to reduce cost, improve yield, and increase throughput without compromising on quality. Coordinate with design, production, and quality teams during new product development (NPD) and process validation (PPAP). Monitor chemical baths, analyze bath composition, and ensure proper chemical maintenance using lab techniques (titration, Hull cell testing, etc.). Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and control plans. Mentor and train junior engineers, operators, and technical staff on best practices and safety protocols. Collaborate with external vendors and internal stakeholders for process audits, equipment maintenance, and plating material procurement. Ensure environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance related to waste management, fume extraction, and chemical handling. Required Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science, or related technical field. 5-8 years of hands-on experience in a high-volume plating or surface treatment environment. Strong knowledge of electroplating chemistry, surface cleaning/pre-treatment, and post-treatment. Familiar with SPC, FMEA, APQP, PPAP, MSA, and problem-solving tools (8D, 5 Why, Fishbone). Working knowledge of plating equipment, process automation, and lab instruments. Proficient in reading engineering drawings and interpreting surface finish and thickness specifications. Preferred candidate profile: Experience with automated plating lines and process data analytics. Exposure to corrosion resistance testing, salt spray chamber, and surface thickness analyzers. New Models Management: Run at rate for parts, list NC (Non-Conformance) and Improvement points , and confirm corrective actions related to CTQ (Critical to Quality) and Non-CTQ parameters. Collaborate with vendor teams and BAL CFT (Cross-Functional Team) to identify process improvements. Incorporate process robustness improvements into IPO audits or Process audits to confirm sustained quality. Technical Skills: Knowledge of various manufacturing processes involving proprietary parts such as Casting , Machining , Plastic Molding , Forging , Assembly , and Painting . Expertise in capacity calculations and cost calculations . Experience in developing proprietary parts like Forks , Shocks , Brakes , Brake Shoes , Throttle Bodies , Carburetors , Valve Guides , Catalytic Converters , and Cannisters . Ability to identify VA/VE (Value Analysis/Value Engineering) potential. Familiarity with raw material price trends and price settlements with industry sources. Strong understanding of vendor procurement and price finalization for proprietary parts.
