Control Room Operator

DCS Operation & Process Control

• Operate and monitor through DCS.
  
• Control critical parameters such as:
  
• Bed temperature & freeboard temperature
  
• Feed rate and concentrate composition
  
• Air flow, oxygen level, pressure balance
  
• SO concentration in off-gas
  
• Maintain steady-state operation and minimize process disturbances.
  

2. Start-up, Shutdown & Emergency Handling

• Execute

  start-up and shutdown sequences

  as per SOP.
• Respond promptly to

  process upsets

  , alarms, and trips.
• Take immediate corrective actions during emergencies like:
  
• High temperature excursions
  
• Feed blockages
  
• Power failure
  
• Instrument or blower trips
  

3. Coordination with Field Operations

• Coordinate continuously with

  field operators

  for:
• Feed system operation
  
• Cooling system checks
  
• Dust handling and discharge
  
• Equipment condition monitoring
  
• Guide field staff for manual interventions during abnormal conditions.
  

4. Safety, Environment & Compliance

• Ensure strict adherence to

  safety procedures and permit systems

  .
• Maintain

  environmental norms

  related to SO emissions, dust, and gas handling.
• Immediately report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents.
  

5. Data Monitoring & Reporting

• Monitor and log key operational data in DCS and logbooks.
  
• Analyze trends for temperature, pressure, gas composition, and throughput.
  
• Support shift engineers in preparing daily production and performance reports.
  

6. Equipment & Instrument Awareness

• Monitor health of critical equipment:
  
• Air blowers, ID fans, cyclones
  
• Waste heat boiler interface
  
• Gas ducts and expansion joints
  
• Identify abnormal instrument readings and inform maintenance teams.
  

7. Continuous Improvement

• Suggest improvements for process stability, energy efficiency, and throughput.
  
• Support trials related to feed quality, oxygen enrichment, and temperature optimization.
  

Key Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of

  roasting process chemistry and thermodynamics

• Hands-on experience in

  DCS systems (ABB / Siemens / Yokogawa / Honeywell)

• Alarm management and troubleshooting skills
  
• Good coordination and communication skills
  
• Ability to work in

  rotational shifts

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech

  in Chemical / Metallurgical

• 3 to 5 years

  of experience in

  Zinc Smelter Roaster / Sulphide Roasting Operations

• Experience in

  Control Room / DCS operation is mandatory
