Role & responsibilities Duties & Responsibilities: Technical responsibility Ensures knowledge of all aspects of blood banking including new technology. Perform appropriate functions at the level of a consultant. Professional Consultation with Clinicians – Provides consultation to clinicians regarding the right component selection and also in interpreting laboratory tests with regard to Immuno-Hematology. Monitoring and Correlation of Laboratory Results – Monitors all works performed in the blood bank and makes sure that reliable and reproducible results are obtained and to correlate this with the clinical condition. Managing Standards in the Laboratory – Monitors the performance and implements quality control measures at all levels, also reviews complaints, delays and errors. Ensures a healthy clean and safe working environment is available for the personnel. Evaluates and selects reference laboratories for performance of tests not done in the institutional laboratories and monitor this service. Assess the quality of the laboratory by participating in Quality Assessment Programs example EQAS. Coordinates with relevant regulatory and accrediting authorities such as The Drug Controller of India, through the Chief of Laboratory Services. Implements laboratory safety program in compliance with applicable regulations. Maintains a cordial relationship with the Chief of Laboratory Services to plan an organizational structure and make sure that adequate qualified, experienced and trained staffs are available. Ensures efficient and effective administration of the laboratory including budgetary planning, in accordance with institutional needs and resources. Arranges for an expansion with regard to space, technology and services. Help clinicians at the time of need to ensure that reliable, appropriate and state of the art testing, which is cost effective, is carried out. Ensures training for all staff for a better quality management for the services provided. It shall be the responsibility of the the Head of the department to make sure maximum participation of all staff, in these training programs. Proper maintaining of training records, distribution of adequate training materials, simple access to SOP’s must be ensured. Maintains good public relation. Assists in accreditation procedures and other departmental activities. Helps in paper presentation and publishing papers.
