Consultant - Hematology

Diagnostic Testing

• Perform and interpret complex diagnostic tests on blood, bone marrow, and other tissues using Hematology techniques.
• Utilize flow cytometry for the analysis of blood and tissue samples, identifying abnormalities in cell populations, and aiding in the diagnosis of hematologic malignancies and other disorders.
• Interpret laboratory data, prepare reports, and provide consultative input to clinicians on diagnostic findings.

Patient Care

• Collaborate with oncologists, haematologists, and other healthcare providers to diagnose and monitor conditions such as leukaemia, lymphoma, anaemia, and clotting disorders.
• Contribute to the development of treatment plans by providing detailed pathology reports and interpretations.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to discuss cases and provide expert opinions.

Laboratory Management

• Ensure the accuracy and quality of diagnostic tests by maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment, including flow cytometers.
• Oversee the work of laboratory technologists and technicians, ensuring adherence to protocols and quality standards.
• Participate in quality control and quality assurance programs to maintain high standards of laboratory practice.

Research & Development

• Engage in research activities to advance the understanding of hematologic diseases and improve diagnostic methods.
• Stay current with advancements in Hematology and flow cytometry by reading relevant literature, attending conferences, and participating in professional development activities.
• Contribute to the development and validation of new diagnostic tests and procedures.

Education & Training

• Train and mentor medical students, residents, and laboratory staff in Hematology and flow cytometry techniques.
• Provide educational presentations and seminars on topics related to Hematology and flow cytometry to healthcare professionals.

Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including those set by accrediting bodies (e.g., CAP, CLIA).
• Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all laboratory procedures, test results, and quality control measures.
• Participate in and contribute to inspections and audits of the laboratory as required.

• Attend conferences/workshops to ensure updated knowledge about recent trends.
