Computer Operator

Job Summary:

The Computer Operator is responsible for monitoring and controlling computer systems and ensuring that they run efficiently. This role involves maintaining and managing computer equipment, executing routine tasks, and troubleshooting technical issues to ensure seamless operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• System Monitoring:
• Monitor computer systems and networks to ensure they function efficiently.
• Identify and respond to system alerts, errors, and malfunctions.
• Routine Operations:
• Execute scheduled tasks such as data backups, batch processing, and software updates.
• Maintain logs of system activities and performance metrics.
• Troubleshooting:
• Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues.
• Coordinate with IT support teams to address and fix complex problems.
• Maintenance:
• Perform regular maintenance on computer systems and peripheral devices.
• Ensure that all software and hardware components are updated and functioning correctly.
• Documentation:
• Document operational procedures, configurations, and issues.
• Prepare reports on system performance and activities.
• User Support:
• Assist users with technical issues and provide guidance on system usage.
• Handle helpdesk tickets and escalate issues as needed.
• Security:
• Implement and adhere to security protocols to protect data and systems.
• Monitor for security breaches and respond appropriately.

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree or higher in computer science or a related field is preferred.
• Experience: Previous experience as a computer operator or in a similar IT role is advantageous.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc.)
• Familiarity with network protocols and configurations
• Knowledge of data backup and recovery procedures
• Understanding of computer hardware and peripheral devices
• Soft Skills:
• Strong problem-solving abilities
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy

Working Conditions:

• Schedule: May include rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Environment: Work is performed in an office or data center environment.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and move computer equipment (up to 50 lbs).
• Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
