Bajaj Electricals Ltd Location: Mahape, Navi Mumbai BU/Division: Research and Development Job Purpose: As a CMF Senior Designer specializing in home appliances, you will work closely with our design and engineering teams to develop new products from concept to production that push the visual and user experience to new levels. This role requires a strong understanding of colour theory, material properties, and surface finish. You will have the opportunity to contribute to all stages of the design process, including research, ideation, prototyping, and testing. Key Responsibilities: Design Execution: Generate CMF design concepts and proposals that align with product requirements, project objectives and user needs, using evocative visuals, mood boards and physical samples. Explore and evaluate a wide range of materials, considering factors such as functionality, aesthetics, durability, sustainability, and manufacturing feasibility, to determine the most suitable materials for our products. Specify surface finishes, textures and treatments that enhance the visual and tactile qualities of our products, ensuring consistency with the overall design vision and brand aesthetic, without sacrificing functionality of parts. Cross Functional Collaboration: Work seamlessly with cross functional teams including industrial designers, product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders, ensuring alignment with project goals and technical requirements ensuring smooth handover. Material and Process Expertise: Propose appropriate materials and manufacturing processes to achieve design intent, cost efficiency, and sustainability goals. Maintain awareness of current design trends, materials, and technologies in the home appliance industry and document. Design Documentation: Exploring, refining, and documenting design solutions and processes. Specify and document approved design’s form, colour specifications, materials/finishes and visual acceptance standards for Engineering and Manufacturing via “Industrial Design CMF Specification” document to ensure consistency and quality across manufacturing processes. Compile and update CMF brochures with a great level of accuracy. Educational Qualifications: B.Des/M.Des in Product Design, Graphic, Lifetsyle design or a related field. Work Experience: 5-10 years of professional experience in industrial design, with a significant focus on home appliances/lifestyle/automotive. A robust portfolio demonstrating your CMF design process, creativity, innovative solutions and successful products in the home appliance or similar sector. Functional Competancies: Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator), CAD software (SolidWorks, Rhino, Belnder), and rendering tools (KeyShot, VRay or equivalent). Creative Skills: Exceptional sketching and visualization skills with a strong sense of aesthetics. A deep knowledge of colour theory, material properties, and surface finishes, with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics. Excellent insight, expertise and understanding of plastic manufacturing processes, and materials. Strong understanding on how principal materials/textures & graphical patterns can be processed and applied on 3D forms User-Centered Design: Clear understanding of user-centered design principles and practices. Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, engineering principles and sustainable design practices. Strong understanding of principal materials such as paint, plastic, texture, and decorative finishes. Behavioral Competancies: Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts clearly and persuasively. Role & responsibilities Understanding Vehicle color material definitions from Global Design Office. Mastering - Evaluate and qualify regional supplier color submissions for commodities like Fabric, Vinyl, Leather, Plastic, Paints, Plastic, Decorative finishes and Textures. Pre-texture / Post texture reviews for injection molded parts (exposure with Tooling activities and production process is desirable) Texture Mark up on physical parts Color and Gloss reviews on Interior and Exterior Parts. Conducting Vehicle Interior Harmony reviews as per standards Exterior harmony reviews for Body color and hang on parts. Create and Maintain Appearance Definition documents. Ensure the progress and KPIs for AAR approvals. Report the AAR development status. Support vehicle programs for material development for body, interior, chassis and powertrain parts Define and select materials for applications/parts and create a validation plan Follow-up with supplier and support suppliers to complete material approval process and industrialization within project timeline Maintain material libraries and databases Support coordination & validation of local material (Plastic, Elastomer, Soft / Textile materials, Chrome, Paints etc.,) to global standard for product development. Participate to the development of local integration by auditing and validating materials suppliers Extend support in plant for any material development or failure analysis, visit to plant as and when required for co-ordination and support Know-how on Benchmarking in India Preferred candidate profile Essential: 8 to10 years of experience in relevant industry & department Good knowledge especially in plastics, rubbers, textiles, plating and painting Automotive color material & Finish exposure. Eyesight to pass Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Color Vision Test Knowledge of material grades & basics about their compositions Good contacts with Tier I and raw material suppliers Excellent MS Power Point (presentation) skills Good communication skills, inter-cultural communications with global teams Organized, autonomous to set priorities & being pro-active Result driven, quick to act Good interpersonal skills, able to adapt, & work in CFT Willingness to learn foreign languages
