Cloud Platform Engineer - FinOps

In this role, you will be responsible for building and operating AWS infrastructure at scale, with a focus on senior or lead responsibilities. Your key responsibilities will include: - Demonstrating expert-level knowledge of AWS services and architecture patterns, covering compute, networking, storage, and security domains. - Showcasing advanced expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code, specifically in designing reusable Terraform modules and managing complex state. - Utilizing deep experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration at scale, including cluster management and workload optimization. - Leveraging strong software engineering skills in multiple languages like Python, Go, etc., for building platform tools and automation. - Establishing a proven track record of designing and implementing self-service platforms to enhance developer productivity. - Leading large-scale infrastructure migrations, modernizations, or transformations. - Specializing in at least one domain such as networking, security, observability, FinOps, or DevOps. - Mentoring senior engineers and leading technical communities of practice. Preferred qualifications for this role include: - Multiple AWS certifications, particularly at Professional and Specialty levels. - Contributing to open-source projects or publishing technical content. - Experience with multi-account AWS organizations and landing zone architectures. - Knowledge of compliance frameworks like SOC2, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and security automation. - Familiarity with FinOps practices and implementing cost optimization strategies at scale. - Track record of speaking at conferences or leading technical workshops. - Experience in building platforms in regulated industries or high-security environments. In addition, if your role involves a FinOps focus, your responsibilities will include: - Implementing cloud cost optimization strategies to reduce waste without affecting performance. - Building cost visibility dashboards and chargeback/showback models for engineering teams. - Developing automated policies for resource optimization, such as rightsizing, scheduling, and spot usage. - Collaborating with Finance and Engineering teams to forecast and optimize cloud spend. - Establishing FinOps practices, including tagging standards, budget alerts, and cost anomaly detection. For additional qualifications, you should have: - A deep understanding of AWS pricing models and cost optimization techniques. - Experience with AWS Cost Management tools like Cost Explorer, Budgets, and Cost and Usage Reports. - Proficiency with FinOps tools such as CloudHealth, Cloudability, or similar. - Strong analytical skills and experience with data visualization tools. - Knowledge of Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, and Spot Instance strategies. - Preferably, a FinOps Certified Practitioner certification and experience in building cost optimization automation and reporting pipelines.
