A platform engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the technology platforms and infrastructure that support software applications and services. You will work on creating and managing the underlying systems and tools that enable developers to build, deploy, and operate their applications efficiently. The role of a platform engineer can vary depending on the client and the specific requirements of the platform you are working on. This role has a foundational understanding of cloud platform concepts and software development principles and business analyst-type skills. Your key responsibilities and attributes include: Foundational Knowledge and Learning: You should possess a basic understanding of cloud computing, infrastructure management, and programming concepts. Your focus will primarily be on learning and applying basic principles and techniques in cloud platform engineering. Analytical Activities: You will engage in tasks such as monitoring cloud systems, capturing and interpreting data on dashboards, and assisting in the build of secure and performant cloud infrastructure. Skill Development: It is important for you to actively work to improve your technical competencies in cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, as well as foundational tools and practices like automation, containerization, and infrastructure as code (IaC). Supervised Contribution: You will follow established procedures and work under supervision to contribute to the team's objectives, while gradually taking on more complex tasks as your skills develop.
