PURPOSE OF THE ROLE As a Senior Journalist on the news digital team, you will commission, edit and publish accurate, pithy news stories and features (both text and video) about India with flair and context. You will have a love of news, sharp editing and rewriting skills and a thoughtful approach to how we tell a story to audiences both in India and across the world. You will have useful and creative approaches to the big stories in India, including the best formats and visual treatments. Your Key Responsibilities And Impact Lead news shifts on certain days, setting the agenda and assigning stories (text and video) to team members. Take overall responsibility for output, including editing, rewriting, and publishing news stories and features in both text and video. Write quick breaking news stories and chase leads for high-impact features and videos. Should have experience of running and editing live pages during breaking news scenarios. Monitor social media, search trends, and audience data to improve storytelling and reach new audiences. Oversee output on social media, including scripting, video production, and writing/editing creative posts. Liaise closely with other BBC departments to ensure output is shared, duplication is avoided, and best practices are upheld. Deliver to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards. Essential Criteria YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Significant experience of editing and publishing output on the desk of a reputed news outlet. A high standard of editorial judgment and production skills based on substantial experience of editing and writing news stories, features and video scripts. Ability to lead a team and ensure the highest standards of subbing and error-free output. Extensive experience of copy editing and rewriting news and features in text. Substantial experience of editing video scripts and producing videos. Substantial understanding of different social media formats. An interest in exploring new ways of telling stories in text and social media videos. Experience in understanding and analysing audience data.
