Barman Duties (Bartender)
The Barman is responsible for the preparation and service of drinks, maintaining the bar area, and interacting with customers.
Drink Preparation & Service
Mix and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Follow standard recipes and portion control.
Suggest drinks and offer pairings with food when asked.
Maintain proper garnishes and ingredients.
Customer Service
Greet customers at the bar and take orders.
Engage with guests in a friendly and professional manner.
Handle complaints politely and promptly escalate if needed
Bar Hygiene & Setup
Keep the bar area clean, organized, and well-stocked.
Clean glasses, tools, and work surfaces regularly.
Prepare the bar before opening and close it down at the end of the shift.
Inventory & Stock
Monitor liquor levels and notify when supplies are low.
Ensure correct storage of spirits, wines, and beers.
Avoid wastage and report breakages or spills.
Compliance
Check IDs and ensure no underage drinking.
Follow local alcohol service laws.
Handle alcohol responsibly and refuse service to overly intoxicated guests.
The Bar Billing Staff handles the financial transactions, maintains billing records, and ensures accuracy in customer bills.
Billing & Payments
Generate customer bills accurately using POS system.
Accept and process payments (cash, card, digital).
Ensure proper billing of items ordered from the bar.
Record Keeping
Maintain receipts and billing logs.
Balance cash drawer at the end of the shift.
Report any discrepancies to management.
Coordination with Bar Staff
Communicate with bartenders to confirm orders.
Ensure that all served items are billed.
Track open and closed orders during shifts.
Customer Service
Handle billing-related customer queries politely.
Resolve or escalate issues related to overcharges or incorrect items.
Compliance & Accuracy
Follow company financial procedures.
Maintain confidentiality of customer payment information.
Issue refunds or discounts only with approval from management.
Bar Waiter Duties
A Bar Waiter is responsible for taking orders from guests, serving drinks and food, and ensuring a positive guest experience at tables within the bar or lounge area.
1. Guest Service & Order Taking
Greet guests warmly and provide menus.
Take drink and food orders accurately and promptly.
Offer drink recommendations and answer questions about the menu.
Relay orders clearly to the bar or kitchen (usually via POS system or manually).
2. Serving Drinks & Food
Serve beverages and snacks/food to guests in a professional and timely manner.
Ensure correct orders are served as requested (right drink, correct glass, temperature, etc.).
Check with guests to ensure satisfaction and respond to additional requests.
3. Cleanliness & Table Maintenance
Keep tables, chairs, and service areas clean and presentable.
Remove used glasses, plates, and napkins regularly.
Reset tables after guests leave (clean, sanitize, and re-set).
4. Billing & Payment Assistance
Coordinate with billing staff to ensure accurate bills.
Present bills to customers if required.
Collect payments (in some setups) or guide guests to the billing counter.
5. Product Knowledge
Understand drink and food menus thoroughly.
Be aware of promotions, special cocktails, happy hour offers, etc.
Inform guests about new or recommended items.
6. Coordination & Communication
Communicate with bartenders and kitchen staff to avoid delays or mistakes.
Update the bar billing staff about served items for proper billing.
Report guest complaints or feedback to supervisors or managers.
7. Customer Satisfaction
Ensure a welcoming and friendly atmosphere.
Respond quickly to guest needs or concerns.
