Backup and Storage Engineer

You are an experienced Senior Engineer specializing in Backup and Storage, and your primary responsibility will be to design, implement, and manage data backup and storage solutions to safeguard the security, availability, and recoverability of critical business data. Collaboration with other IT teams to ensure seamless operations of backup and storage systems, as well as the identification and execution of system enhancements, will be crucial aspects of your role. Your duties will include designing and maintaining backup and storage systems tailored to meet the organization's requirements. This involves selecting suitable hardware and software, system configuration, and ensuring performance and reliability benchmarks are met. You will also be responsible for firmware upgrades, tape drive/library configuration, defining backup/retention policies, Mtree management, and CIFS share creation. Developing comprehensive disaster recovery plans will be part of your responsibilities to guarantee business continuity during system failures or outages. You will create backup schedules, conduct backup and recovery tests, and document recovery procedures. Your daily operations will involve monitoring backup and storage systems, addressing issues, configuring backup and restoration for various clients (VM, DB, FS), performance tuning, troubleshooting backup failures, analyzing system logs, applying updates and patches, managing tape backups, as well as monitoring backup schedules and data domain replication. Providing technical guidance to junior engineers and other IT staff will also be essential. This includes offering training, mentorship, sharing best practices, advising on technology advancements, and assisting in Proof of Concepts (POCs) definition and evaluation of success criteria. You will ensure the security and compliance of backup and storage systems by implementing appropriate security controls, conducting audits, and staying updated on industry security standards. Knowledge of data vaulting with air gap for cyber incident protection and ransomware prevention will be advantageous in this role.,
