Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Teacher

We are seeking a compassionate and proactive Teacher of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to join a partner school in the USA. In this role, you will be responsible for teaching and supporting students with autism by developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to their specific needs. Utilizing specialized teaching methods, you will work towards managing student behavior to facilitate their learning and overall growth. Your key responsibilities will include assessing student abilities, assisting in the development of IEP goals, teaching academic, communication, social, and life skills based on IEPs, implementing research-based techniques for students with autism, tracking and reporting student progress regularly, managing classroom behavior to create a positive learning environment, fostering communication and collaboration with parents, staff, and community agencies, providing training and support to teaching assistants and staff, and assisting with health care tasks such as first aid and physical support if required. The ideal candidate for this position should possess a special education credential that authorizes the teaching of severely handicapped students, with preference given to individuals with classroom experience in working directly with severely handicapped students. Previous experience working with students with autism is preferred, along with a strong knowledge of autism teaching strategies and behavioral management. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to work with nonverbal students using alternative communication methods and be physically capable of supporting students during behavioral challenges.
