Job Description

Role & responsibilities

4.1 Conduct comprehensive hearing assessments, including pure-tone audiometry, speech audiometry, impedance testing, otoacoustic emissions (OAE), and auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing.

4.2 Evaluate patients with balance disorders through vestibular assessments such as videonystagmography (VNG), rotary chair testing, and vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP).

4.3 Interpret test results and collaborate with ENT physicians to diagnose hearing and balance disorders, as well as associated conditions such as tinnitus and hyperacusis.

4.4 Provide counseling to patients and their families regarding hearing loss management, communication strategies, hearing aid selection, fitting, and maintenance.

4.5 Perform hearing aid evaluations, fittings, and adjustments, ensuring optimal hearing aid performance and patient satisfaction.

4.6 Administer auditory rehabilitation programs, including auditory training, speechreading, and cochlear implant rehabilitation.

4.7 Collaborate with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists to address communication and balance difficulties in patients with complex medical conditions.

4.8 Stay updated on advancements in audiology research, technology, and treatment modalities through continuing education and professional development activities.

4.9 Maintain accurate patient records, documentation, and billing information in compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies.

Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and educational seminars to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and enhance patient care outcomes.

Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis:

4.1.1 Perform comprehensive evaluations of speech, language, voice, and swallowing function.

4.1.2 Use diagnostic tools such as FEES, VFSS, or bedside swallow assessments.

4.1.3 Document and interpret findings to formulate treatment plans.

4.2 Treatment & Therapy:

4.2.1 Design and implement individualized therapy programs for speech, voice, and swallowing rehabilitation.

4.2.2 Provide pre- and post-operative counseling and therapy (e.g., post-laryngectomy, stroke rehab, head and neck cancer).

4.2.3 Conduct therapeutic sessions using a variety of techniques, including compensatory strategies, exercises, and sensory stimulation methods.

4.3 Multidisciplinary Collaboration:

4.3.1 Participate in tumor boards, stroke rounds, ICU weaning discussions, and rehabilitation planning.

4.3.2 Educate and guide patients, caregivers, and healthcare staff on safe swallowing and communication strategies.

4.3.3 Support tracheostomy care and communication training.

4.4 Documentation & Reporting:

4.4.1 Maintain detailed and timely clinical records.

4.4.2 Contribute to clinical audits and outcome tracking.

4.4.3 Prepare patient progress reports for the clinical team.

4.5 Training & Research

4.5.1 Participate in academic sessions, workshops, and CME activities.

4.5.2 Support training of junior staff, residents, and interns.

4.5.3 Involvement in clinical research or quality improvement projects, if applicable.
