Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning:

  • Develop, deliver, and assess academic courses and modules using a learner-centered approach that fosters an engaging and inclusive learning environment.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, tutorials, and practical sessions using appropriate media, including IT-based tools and platforms.
  • Actively engage students in their learning through interactive and innovative teaching methods, promoting critical thinking and independent learning.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on their academic progress and assignments, ensuring that feedback is non-biased, actionable, and supportive.
  • Integrate relevant research findings and professional practice into teaching to enhance the student learning experience.
  • Review and update course content and materials regularly to ensure that they reflect current trends, research, and professional practices.

Curriculum Development & Innovation:

  • Develop and enhance curriculum content and teaching strategies to meet the evolving needs of students, ensuring that learning objectives are met.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, including the design of new courses and modules, and the continuous improvement of existing programs.
  • Innovate in learning and teaching methodologies, using technology and new pedagogical approaches to engage students effectively.
  • Ensure that assessments are fair, transparent, and aligned with course learning outcomes, and participate in the marking and moderation of student work.
  • Actively participate in departmental and university initiatives related to teaching, learning, and assessment.

Student Support and Pastoral Care:

  • Provide academic advising, mentoring, and pastoral care to students, addressing their individual needs and promoting their well-being and success.
  • Assist students with their personal and academic development, including providing support for academic projects, dissertations, and placements.
  • Lead and participate in student induction sessions, providing essential information and guidance to new students.
  • Supervise and guide students in their industrial placements, work-based projects, or practical assignments, ensuring alignment with academic and professional standards.

Research and Scholarly Activity:

  • Identify and conduct research that is relevant to your teaching role and contributes to the academic development of the department.
  • Integrate scholarly research into teaching, ensuring that students are exposed to the latest developments and emerging trends in the field.
  • Participate in collaborative research projects, academic conferences, and seminars, contributing to the dissemination of knowledge through publications and presentations.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through research, conferences, and workshops, enhancing academic skills and knowledge.

Staff Development and Contribution:

  • Actively engage in continuous professional development, including attending staff development activities related to teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of teaching resources, materials, and practices within the department.
  • Mentor and support junior academic staff, encouraging their professional growth and development in teaching and research.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the university to share best practices in teaching and learning, fostering a collaborative academic environment.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Educational Qualification:

  • A relevant academic qualification, typically a Master's degree or Doctorate (PhD) in the field related to the courses being taught.
  • Relevant professional certifications or licenses (if applicable to the subject area).
  • Experience:
