Associate Product Owner / Over the Air Update

As the central part of Remote Software Upgrade (RSU) for BMW vehicles, our team is responsible in making sure to update all ECUs over the air. Our component runs on Linux and is a middleware which communicates with the Backend, HMI and other ECUs and orchestrates the entire Software update within the vehicle. BMW has delivered over 10 million Remote Software Upgrades to its global vehicle fleet. These updates, which enhance features and optimize vehicle systems, are delivered directly to customers vehicles, eliminating the need for dealership visits. BMWs software-defined vehicles, with numerous computing units, benefit from these updates, improving driving assistance, infotainment, personalization and security.

We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Product Owner for our offshore team in BTI. As a key player of this critical product, you will play an essential role in ensuring their seamless operation, robustness and optimal performance within our vehicles. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining a reliable and innovative RSU experience for our customers.

As an Associate Product Owner for Remote Software Upgrade, you will be working as a tandem PO, managing feature deliveries and bug fixes along with a skilled BTI team of developers and testers in scrum mode. You will be working in very close collaboration with the PO and the team at BMW CarIT Ulm.

Key Responsibilities:

• Breakdown features/epics and provide feedback to RSU Roadmap by aligning with the PO
• Manage Backlog, priorities and timely delivery from the BTI RSU team
• Manage BTI teams resource capacity and allocation
• Triage incoming defects and manage them until fixed and delivered
• Monitor the teams performance and commitment to the goals. Challenge deviations from agreed commitments, strategies and plans
• Assure deliveries from BTI team matches agreed quality
• Support the PO in strategic product and team initiatives
• Communicate proactively and transparently
• Encourage constructive and timely feedback culture within the team
• Report adequately to various stakeholders with appropriate details
• Support ramping up developers and testers at BTI

• Business fluent English
• University degree in computer science or a comparable field of study
• At-least 5 years of hands-on software design and development experience in Software field with at-least 2 years of Software Project/Product Management experience

• Strong understanding of professional software development processes and practices - experience working with full software life cycle
• Proven experience in using agile practices
• Strong experience in working with distributed software development and test teams
• Good communication skills
• Familiar with Linux based systems
• Background with hands-on programming experience (preferably C++) is a plus
