What we're looking for

We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Assistant General Manager - Automation Engineering to lead the development of robust, scalable, and cost-efficient automation solutions. You will be instrumental in defining technical specifications, guiding basic design, and ensuring compliance with all relevant safety standards, including ATEX directives. This role demands a proactive individual with a deep understanding of industrial automation, a knack for identifying future solutions, and the ability to drive continuous improvement in a fast-evolving industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Key Result Areas:

  • Based on requirements, build the best automation solution in terms of reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Write specifications and participate in technical discussions with customers and suppliers.
  • Identify future solutions based on market evolution.
  • Identify improvements and/or weaknesses.
  • Follow up on new technologies and supplier developments to ensure the best technical and economic solution for each of our products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read and understand customer specifications and establish a deviation list between John Cockerill's usual solution and the request.
  • Consider local regulations and specific requirements.
  • Initiate the basic design (control architecture, integrated control system philosophy, etc.).
  • Define the preliminary purchase specification.
  • Ensure boundaries of scope and interfaces with suppliers.
  • Develop solutions for

    PLC programming, configuration, and troubleshooting

    , starting with

    TIA Portal Siemens (from V18)

    to meet project requirements.
  • Modify and enhance

    SCADA systems

    to improve functionality and performance.
  • Integrate new features and modules into existing SCADA systems as per project specifications.
  • Safety Compliance (ATEX):

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, particularly

    ATEX directives

    , in all automation projects.
  • Implement safety measures and protocols to mitigate risks associated with hazardous environments.
  • Understand and develop industrial networks, in diverse communication protocols, such as

    Profibus, Profinet, Modbus

    , etc.
  • Configure and troubleshoot communication networks to facilitate seamless data exchange between automation components.
  • Develop the

    IO list

    relative to a project.
  • Ensure the implementation of robust

    cybersecurity measures

    to protect industrial automation systems from cyber threats.
  • Ensure the follow-up of suppliers, including receipt of material.
  • Participate in

    FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) and SAT (Site Acceptance Test)

    related to studies, based on checklists for verification of product conformity.
  • Engage in short-term assignments at John Cockerill Hydrogen offices, as well as international customer or supplier locations during studies.
  • Develop engineering processes and templates for the team.
  • Be interested in and ensure technological watch, be proactive in the continuous learning of the Hydrogen sector.

Key Advantages (Preferred Skills):

  • Knowledge in electrical basic design or instrumentation design.
  • Experience in

    WinCC Unified

    .
  • Perform drive parameter tuning to optimize the performance of motor control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and fine-tune drive parameters to achieve desired operational outcomes.
  • Fine-tune control algorithms and parameters to ensure precise regulation and control of industrial processes.
  • Analyze system performance data and adjust regulation and efficiency.
  • Conduct on-site commissioning activities, including system testing, integration, and optimization. Collaborate with project teams to ensure successful installation and deployment of automation solutions at client sites.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree B.E. (Control / Automation / Instrumentation field).
  • Experience:

    Minimum 15-18 years experience in process design and engineering in an industrial environment.
  • Experience and knowledge in the Oil & Gas or Energy sector is an asset.
  • Proficient in process control and

    PID

    understanding.
  • Knowledge of the following standards, on top of electrical ones (
