Role & responsibilities Functions in a leadership and supervisory role for staff nurses. Responsible for assisting with supervision, direction and coordination of nursing personnel. Makes appropriate room and care giver assignments to optimize patient placement and workload balance throughout the shift. Develops objectives for the management of the unit. Ensure staff discipline. Works with the Nursing- HOD on improving patient care and customer satisfaction. Promotes environment of cooperation and mutual support to maintain focus on patient care; anticipates and supports needs of other staff. Must be able to communicate effectively, demonstrate delegation skill and develop good interpersonal relationship with patient, staff, physicians and visitors. Report promptly any unusual occurrence to the Nursing Supervisor/ Nursing - HOD. e.g. medication errors, complaint, VIP's or staff admitted, etc Performs extra duties when called upon especially on an emergency. Maintains uptodate knowledge and practice of nursing trends and new developments in the health field. Coordinates health education program in the unit. Supervises other non-nursing personnel in the unit. Conducts periodical survey to ensure nursing care standards. Ensures patientcare services according to established procedures and policies in the unit. Ensure assistance to doctors in procedures and other related duties. Meets patients regularly to ensure maximum care and ascertain need for additional or modified services. Supervises maintenance of records of nursing and medical treatment and related services carried out by nursing personnel. Ensures proper utilization of supplies and power to avoid wastage. Maintains adequate supplies and equipment for daily use and carry out periodic inventory. Assists in the safekeeping of valuables. Safeguards patients' safety at all times. Ensures work place is always neat and clean. Acts promptly in emergency situation.
