Preoperative Assessment

• Evaluate patients before surgery to determine medical history and anesthesia risks.
  
• Order and interpret necessary tests (e.g., blood work, ECG).
  
• Develop an individualized anesthesia plan.
  

Administration of Anesthesia

• Select and administer appropriate anesthetic agents (general, regional, or local anesthesia).
  
• Monitor and adjust anesthesia levels throughout the procedure to ensure patient comfort and safety.
  

Intraoperative Monitoring

• Continuously monitor vital signs (heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, etc.).
  
• Manage the patients airway and breathing, including intubation when necessary.
  
• Handle any anesthesia-related complications during surgery.
  

Pain Management

• Provide pain relief during and after surgical procedures.
  
• Administer medications or perform nerve blocks, epidurals, or spinal anesthesia.
  
• Consult on chronic pain management cases in some settings.
  

Post-Anesthesia Care

• Oversee patient recovery from anesthesia in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).
  
• Monitor for and manage side effects or complications (e.g., nausea, respiratory issues).
  
• Ensure safe transition to full consciousness or transfer to intensive care if needed.
  

Emergency Care

• Respond to emergencies, including cardiac arrest or respiratory failure, inside or outside the operating room.
  
• Provide critical care and life support as needed.
  

Collaboration and Communication

• Work closely with surgeons, nurses, and other medical professionals to coordinate patient care.
  
• Communicate anesthesia plans and patient status clearly with the surgical team and patient (or family).
  

Documentation

• Maintain accurate medical records, including anesthesia notes, patient responses, and medications administered.
  
• Ensure legal and ethical compliance in recordkeeping and consent.
