Academic Counselor

The Academic Counselor is responsible for guiding and supporting students in achieving their academic and career goals. This role involves providing academic advising, identifying students' needs, developing educational plans, and assisting in the resolution of academic challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-on-one academic advising to students regarding course selection, major declaration, and degree planning.

Monitor student progress and performance; identify at-risk students and implement intervention strategies.

Assist students with setting academic goals and developing success strategies (e.g., time management, study skills).

Guide students through institutional policies, academic procedures, and graduation requirements.

Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and student support services to ensure coordinated care.

Maintain detailed records of student interactions, academic plans, and counseling sessions.

Organize and conduct academic workshops, orientation sessions, and outreach events.

Refer students to appropriate campus resources such as tutoring, career counseling, or mental health services.

Track and analyze academic data to improve retention and success rates.

Stay current on curriculum changes, academic policies, and best practices in student advising.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree

Experience:

2+ years of experience in academic counseling, or a similar student support role.

Experience working with diverse student populations is highly desirable.

Skills:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to handle sensitive issues with confidentiality and professionalism.

Knowledge of educational systems, degree programs, and academic regulations.

Competency with advising management software and MS Office tools.

Organizational and problem-solving skills.
