2D Character Illustrator & Storyboard Refining Artist - Freelance

Role: Freelance Character Illustrator & Storyboard Refining Artist

We're looking for a freelance 2D artist who can both design original characters and refine storyboards into clean, animation-ready panels. You'll be working on cinematic, story-driven 2D animation projects (short films / series), where characters, acting and mood are more important.

Key Responsibilities:

Create original character designs (turnarounds, expressions, key poses) based on written briefs and rough concepts.

Refine rough storyboards into clean, clear line-art panels with correct proportions, expressions, and camera angles.

Ensure characters stay on-model across all panels and shots.

Add basic indications for lighting, mood and composition to support background and animation teams.

Prepare animation-ready files (layered PSD/Clip Studio/etc.) for the animators.

Communicate with the director/lead artist, take feedback, and deliver on agreed deadlines.

Required Skills:

Strong 2D drawing skills anatomy, faces, gestures, expressions.

Experience in character illustration and/or storyboarding / storyboard clean-up.

Good sense of cinematic framing, posing and acting.

Comfortable working in Photoshop / Clip Studio / similar with layered files.

Ability to follow a given visual style and also add your own creativity where needed.

Reliable, responsive, and able to work independently as a remote freelancer.

Availability Requirement:

Must be available 3 days a week (fixed schedule can be finalized mutually).

Must be reachable during working hours for feedback, revisions and handover.
