You are sought after to fill the position of z/OS System Programming Engineer for our client, with a substantial experience of 10 years, out of which at least 8 years should be relevant. The job location will be in either Bangalore or Mumbai, and you will be required to work during EST time from 5:30 PM to 3 AM or on rotational shifts. The work will be carried out from the client's office premises. As a z/OS System Programming Engineer, your primary responsibility will be the design and upkeep of the operating environment that is pivotal in delivering the necessary technology, stability, and performance to cater to the computing demands on the Firm's z-platform. To excel in this role, you must possess intermediate to expert level knowledge in zOS internals, strong expertise in Catalog management, exceptional troubleshooting abilities, and the capacity to work efficiently during high-pressure scenarios such as system outages in production. Proficiency in USS/OMVS, experience in z/OS and ISV software installations, excellent testing skills, understanding of HCD/Hardware, and REXX experience are essential requirements. Desirable skills include Assembler skills for usermods maintenance and dump reading, familiarity with zOSMF, rest APIs, Kafka, ansibles, python, and other contemporary zOS technologies. You are expected to be a self-motivated individual, a collaborative team player, an exceptional researcher with a unique problem-solving approach, and possess proficient verbal and written communication skills in English. As an Engineering Manager at BMC, you will have the opportunity to lead a team of mainframe engineers in the sustaining and enhancement of a Mainframe (z/OS) product. Your role will involve building a talented team from the ground up, addressing high-impact issues, improving product functionality, and ensuring exceptional value delivery to customers. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams globally, manage APARs cycles and enhancements backlog, and uphold the highest quality and performance standards for our software. Key Responsibilities: - Lead and manage a team of mainframe engineers working on Mainframe mission-critical software. - Develop diagnostic tools and processes to enhance product supportability. - Work closely with product teams to define requirements and prioritize development tasks. - Manage APARs development cycles to ensure timely delivery and quality assurance. - Oversee the development of new functions to improve the product. - Handle people-related responsibilities such as hiring, task delegation, workload prioritization, and individual growth guidance. - Cultivate a sense of urgency within the team to meet project deadlines. - Promote continuous learning and development among team members. Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. - 5+ years of software engineering experience in the Mainframe z/OS environment. - Proficiency in z/Assembler with a deep understanding and coding experience. - Strong knowledge of Mainframe z/OS environment, including JCL, JES2(3), SMS, and z/OS internals. - Ability to analyze dumps using IPCS and familiarity with SMP/E. - Capable of engaging in technical discussions and problem analysis with customers. - Excellent problem-solving skills, a sense of urgency, and the ability to build and lead effective teams. - Self-motivated with a desire to learn and adapt, along with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Nice To Have: - Experience with Java, C, and C++. - Familiarity with Unix System Services and Language Environment. - Background in building teams from scratch and working in an enterprise product-based company.
