Our client is a YCombinator and VC-backed API-tech company focused on providing a unified API for proptech companies. This API enables quick and easy integration with multiple property management systems, ultimately saving time, accelerating product development, and increasing revenue opportunities. By simplifying the process, they aim to facilitate the creation of innovative products within the vast real estate market. As a part of the team, your responsibilities will include implementing customer requests related to the unified property management API, building and maintaining API integrations with various property management systems, working with complex data models, and normalizing inconsistent data formats. You will also be expected to debug and resolve integration issues, including legacy SOAP APIs, troubleshoot and fix bugs promptly, write tests for your own and your teammates" code, and contribute to technical documentation and code reviews. Effective communication of changes, ideas, failures, and improvements within the team is crucial for success in this role. To excel in this position, you should possess at least 5 years of professional experience in software development and demonstrate a strong proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, and React. Experience with RESTful API development and consumption, navigating and integrating with complex external APIs, data transformation and normalization techniques, and API authentication methods (OAuth, Basic Auth, etc.) are essential. Additionally, a solid understanding of building resilient systems that can handle unreliable upstream services is required. The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of technologies such as NodeJS, TypeScript, PostgreSQL (or similar), and experience with AWS services. Familiarity with both REST and SOAP APIs is preferred, and bonus points will be awarded for experience integrating with specific property management systems, familiarity with the proptech industry, knowledge of webhook implementation and management, and expertise in error handling and retry mechanisms for unreliable APIs. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with an initial engagement period of 2-6 months, with the potential to convert to a full-time position.
