About the role As a Principal Engineer you set the strategy for software development and/or infrastructure engineering at Target. You set the direction for how software and infrastructure engineering efforts will be designed, developed, and operationalised across multiple portfolios and drives adoption across Target Tech. You lead and approve software and infrastructure engineering efforts to meet functional and non-functional requirements. You are a thought leader and mentor for internal and external technical talent and actively contribute to the external technical community. Deep understanding of frontend architecture patterns, UI/UX best practices, and performance optimization techniques. Expertise in modern web technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), and responsive web design principles. Solid experience with state management libraries (e.g., Redux) and frontend build tools (e.g., Webpack, Babel). Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Lead and mentor a team of frontend engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering a collaborative and innovative environment. Drive the technical roadmap for the frontend stack, making strategic decisions to enhance performance, maintainability, and scalability. Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to coding standards. Stay up-to-date with the latest frontend technologies, tools, and trends, and evaluate their potential application within the organization. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address technical challenges and optimize development processes. Work closely with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions. Actively participate in architectural discussions, providing valuable insights and advocating for best practices.
