Part-Time WordPress Developer (Landing Pages) — Contract Unpause is a design-psychology-led creative studio building thoughtful brands, products, and marketing systems. We’re hiring a Part-Time WordPress Developer to help build and optimize high-quality landing pages and page templates for an enterprise website program. This role reports directly to our Head of Development and will work closely with our design and strategy teams. You’ll translate Figma files into performant, accessible WordPress experiences—balancing speed with quality under real-world deadlines. Why this role exists Our development team is expanding. The work spans migration, new template/block development, and ongoing optimization across international sites, product hubs, and integrated marketing experiences. What you’ll do Ship landing pages fast (and right): Convert Figma designs to responsive, accessible WordPress pages using Gutenberg blocks and/or ACF-powered patterns, with clean HTML5/CSS3/JS. Support a live migration: Maintain and improve existing pages while helping move the codebase and content to a custom FSE block theme (multi-year program). Build reusable systems: Create/extend blocks, patterns, templates, and helper utilities that marketing and content teams can use safely. Harden the front end: Refactor legacy CSS/JS, modernize structure and workflows, and enforce componentized, scalable styles. Optimize relentlessly: Improve performance, accessibility (WCAG), and SEO —including Core Web Vitals, semantic markup, ARIA, and structured content. Own publishing quality: Monitor for outdated or incorrect content, fix layout/plugin issues, and escalate complex items with clear repro steps. Collaborate in code: Review PRs, write clear commit messages, follow coding standards, and document your work for designers and non-technical stakeholders. Mind the platform: Work within enterprise WordPress hosting (e.g., Altis Cloud / WP Engine), environments, and CI/CD workflows. Partner across functions: Work with backend devs, designers, SEO, analytics, and content to keep pages fast, on-brand, and easy to manage. What you’ll bring Must-haves 1 to 3 years of hands-on WordPress development (custom themes, block development, PHP, REST APIs). Proven experience migrating from page builders (Divi/Elementor/etc.) to custom themes or FSE . Strong front-end skills: HTML5, CSS3 (Flex/Grid), JavaScript (ES6+), React , and solid PHP fundamentals. Deep familiarity with Gutenberg (block editor), block registration/composition, and ACF (including ACF Blocks or field-driven content models). Comfort with Git/GitHub , code reviews, branching strategies, and basic DevOps in managed WP environments (e.g., Altis Cloud / WP Engine ). Demonstrated practice of performance, accessibility, and SEO best practices on content-heavy sites. Excellent attention to detail, consistency with brand systems, and ability to hit deadlines without sacrificing quality. Clear, proactive communication in English across time zones. Nice-to-haves Experience with internationalization/localization , multi-region sites, or enterprise content workflows. Familiarity with SEO tools (e.g., Semrush), schema, and analytics integrations. Experience collaborating in mixed product/marketing/design pods. Comfort with design handoff and Figma-to-front-end nuance (tokens, spacing, type scale, motion). Contract & hiring process Engagement: Part-time contractor (hours vary by sprint). Paid trial: 4–6 weeks , with extension to a long-term/month-to-month contract contingent on performance and output aligned to client needs. Time zones: Ability to collaborate across global time zones . Working style: Rapid iteration, crisp communication, and speed with quality is crucial . How we’ll evaluate your fit Code samples showing custom WP theme/block work (links to GitHub or private repos welcome). Before/after examples of page-builder → custom theme/FSE migrations. Evidence of performance/accessibility improvements (e.g., Lighthouse scores, CWV, audits). Demonstrated ability to systematize : patterns, components, documentation.
