We are seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused Lead Application Engineer with a deep technical background in Aerospace & Defence (A&D) to join our pre-sales engineering team. In this pivotal role, you will leverage your expertise to drive technical engagements throughout the sales lifecycle, create complex engineering solutions through Ansys Digital Mission Engineering technology to support the regional A&D customers. This position requires a blend of advanced technical proficiency and exceptional communication skills, with a strong emphasis on understanding customer needs and translating them into tangible value. This role encompasses working closely with the sales team to identify business growth opportunities, drive technical engagements, involve appropriate subject matter experts, and provide technical solutions for our customers. Key duties and responsibilities Work independently within multi-disciplinary teams to significantly grow our business for a full portfolio of simulation products, particularly within the Aerospace and Defence sector. Demonstrate profound technical mastery and knowledge of engineering simulation techniques, specifically within aerospace domains, to provide the highest level of technical support to customers, ensuring high-quality and timely service. Regularly interact with aerospace customers to understand their solution needs, key business initiatives, and engineering design workflows, addressing their requirements for solutions during design and engineering stages. Lead complex customer engagements throughout the sales opportunity lifecycle, interacting with key customers to understand their technology needs, key business initiatives, engineering design workflows, and articulate our value proposition to Director or C-level audiences. Gather and document relevant metrics to demonstrate the impact of technical engagements and proposed solutions. Gather customer requirements to support the continuous improvement of our software and collaborate with product development teams to translate customer requirements into new product capabilities, guiding the product roadmap. Participate in internal corporate initiatives to share knowledge and to create best practices, both within and outside the Aerospace discipline. Mentor junior application engineers, fostering their technical growth and customer-facing skills. Support field and digital marketing efforts, including authoring conference presentations, technical papers, and webinars relevant to aerospace applications. Actively collaborate with other team members as well as other functions including sales, marketing, and product management/development within and outside of the region to drive customer success. Minimum qualifications and experience Required education and degree Type: Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Aerospace/ Astronautical/ Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. Required years of professional experience: BS+10, MS+6, or PhD+3 Demonstrated use of Ansys DME software (STK, ODTK) and knowledge of multiphysics tools (e.g. structural, fluid dynamics, electromagnetics, thermal etc.). Competency in Object Oriented Programming (OOP) and familiarity with the following programming languages: Python, MATLAB, C#, Java. Demonstrated understanding of aerospace engineering practices, product development lifecycles, experience with building solutions using simulation technology, and deploying those solutions within customers engineering workflows. Track record of delivering exceptional customer outcomes and contributing to revenue impact with A&D industry. Strong leadership and mentoring skills. Logical problem-solving, strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to facilitate and conduct webinars and presentations to customers and a wide range of audiences. Fluent in writing and speaking English. Ability to organize and drive multiple complex projects across geographically diverse locations. Possesses a strong sense of urgency. Ability to travel up to 30% of the time. Preferred skills and knowledge areas In-depth knowledge and experience in Astrodynamics (orbital mechanics, trajectory optimization, mission planning). Strong understanding of Flight Dynamics (aircraft stability and control, aerodynamic performance). Familiarity with Radar Systems principles, simulation, and analysis. Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and tools. Proficiency in Multiphysics simulations relevant to aerospace applications (e.g., aero-thermo-structural coupling, fluid-structure interaction, electromagnetics). Prior experience in modelling and simulation of complex aerospace systems. Knowledge of various aerospace subsystems and their interactions. Experience with space launch vehicles, satellites, aircraft, or defence systems. Ability to interact effectively with senior business managers and C-level executives. Demonstrated ability to understand business requirements and translate these into an execution plan that delivers value and meets business goals. Role Overview We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled GNC Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. You will be responsible for the development and implementation of guidance, navigation, and control algorithms and systems for our launch vehicles. You will work across simulation, flight software, and hardware-in-the-loop testing to ensure safe and precise flight. Key Responsibilities Design and develop GNC algorithms for launch vehicles, including trajectory optimization, guidance laws, navigation filters (e.g., Kalman filters), and control laws. Model vehicle dynamics and simulate full flight profiles in 6DOF environments. Implement and test navigation systems using IMUs, GPS, and other sensors. Collaborate with avionics, propulsion, and software teams for integrated vehicle simulations and closed-loop performance verification. Design attitude control systems for various flight phases including lift-off, ascent, coast, and reentry (if applicable). Develop tools and frameworks for real-time GNC analysis, tuning, and validation. Participate in pre-flight simulations, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and post-flight data analysis. Support system integration, test campaigns, and launch operations as required. Qualifications Required: Bachelors/Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering, Control Systems, Robotics, or a related field. Strong fundamentals in flight dynamics, control theory, estimation, and numerical optimization. Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and/or Python for simulation and modeling. Familiarity with state estimation techniques (e.g., Kalman filtering). Experience with embedded systems and real-time implementation of control algorithms. Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for precision. Preferred: Hands-on experience in launch vehicle or UAV GNC systems. Familiarity with embedded C/C++ and software-in-the-loop / hardware-in-the-loop testing. Knowledge of sensor fusion techniques and real-time navigation systems.
