Position: OT Scrub Nurse
Department: Operation Theatre (OT)
Location: MAHANANDI HOSPITALS BROOKFIELD BANGALORE

1. Job Summary

The OT Scrub Nurse is responsible for assisting surgeons during surgical procedures by preparing and maintaining the sterile field, handling instruments, and ensuring strict adherence to infection control and safety protocols. The role demands high attention to detail, technical skill, and effective teamwork.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Pre-Operative Responsibilities

• Prepare the OT by ensuring all instruments, equipment, and supplies are sterile and available.
• Verify patient identity, consent, and surgical site as per hospital protocols.
• Assist in the positioning and preparation of the patient for surgery.
• Arrange surgical instruments and materials in an organized manner on the sterile table.
• Participate in pre-operative safety checks (WHO Surgical Safety Checklist).

B. Intra-Operative Responsibilities

• Maintain a strict sterile field throughout the procedure.
• Assist the surgeon by passing instruments, sutures, and materials promptly and safely.
• Count instruments, sponges, and needles before, during, and after the procedure with the circulating nurse.
• Handle specimens carefully and label them properly.
• Monitor patient condition in coordination with the anesthetist and surgical team.
• Ensure safe operation of OT equipment (diathermy, suction, lights, etc.).

C. Post-Operative Responsibilities

• Perform final instrument and material count before closure.
• Ensure safe transfer of the patient to the recovery room with the OT team.
• Clean, decontaminate, and send instruments for sterilization.
• Prepare OT for the next procedure with proper turnaround time.
• Document the procedure details, counts, and materials used.

3. Skills & Requirements

• Diploma / B.Sc. Nursing with valid Nursing Council registration.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Scrub Nurse (preferred).
• Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and sterile techniques.
• Ability to work under pressure in emergency and elective surgeries.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Strong sense of hygiene, discipline, and responsibility.

5. Work Timings & Shifts

• As per hospital shift schedule (Morning/Evening/Night).

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹23,000.00 - ₹33,000.00 per month
