SECTION I: BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE JOB ROLE Job Role Variant: Duty Port Captain Value Stream: Asset Operations Job Family: Manufacturing Sub-Job Family: Marine Location: Jamnagar SECTION II: PURPOSE OF THE ROLE Oversee daily marine operations at POC, tanker berths, anchorages, and SPM areas to ensure safe, efficient operations in line with safety systems and regulatory standards. SECTION III: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE ROLE Policies, Processes and Procedures Support the development of marine operational plans and execute tasks as per standards and regulations Execute new initiatives/projects following set policies for future operational needs Share suggestions for process improvements, standards, and best practices Stay updated with regional regulations and operational risks to drive safety and efficiency Marine Operations Conduct vessel screenings and approve based on dimensional fit per policy; ensure all terminal tasks follow work permit norms Monitor daily port and terminal operations for safety; ensure all equipment at the jetty and SPM is fully functional Perform routine vessel/tanker inspections and issue deficiency notes when needed Maintain a safe ship-shore interface and coordinate between SPM vessels and shore Supervise vessel movements within the port area to ensure safe passage Enforce operational discipline and HSEF procedures Coordinate with MTF to resolve cargo transfer issues and recommend preventive actions Lead emergency response as on-scene commander; mobilise resources for control and mitigation Build and sustain relationships with vendors, contractors, and stakeholders; attend rack-up meetings People Management Take part in hiring and retention initiatives for team members Set and assess team goals, conduct appraisals, and offer feedback Coach and support the team in handling advanced responsibilities Identify team training needs and suggest learning programs SECTION IV: SUCCESS METRICS Zero LTIFR, fatalities, fires, leaks, or spill incidents Compliance with safety audits and near-miss recommendations SOP job cycle verification Risk assessments at POC Execution of PSM and audit action points Timely LFI communication Strong implementation of permit-to-work systems Vessel inspection documentation Navigational safety assurance No delays in berthing, un-berthing, or cargo ops due to marine issues Routine testing of emergency equipment and preparedness drills Active participation in emergency tabletop exercises SECTION V: OPERATING NETWORK Internal: Plant Teams, HSEF Teams, S&T, etc. External: Government Bodies, Consultants, Auditors, Vendors, etc. SECTION VI: KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES Education Qualifications Master (FG) Certificate of Competency from DG Shipping, India / BSc Nautical Science Experience (Must have) Minimum 1-year experience as a Master on tanker (Oil/Chemical/Gas) Experience (Good to have) Desired Skills and Experience Navigation, Ship Handling, Maritime Rules, Emergency Response, Port Operations, Master FG
