As the Head of Central Refractory at Jindal Steel, your role involves leading and managing the refractory function within the steel plant. Your primary objectives will be to ensure reliable refractory performance, optimize costs, and drive continuous improvement to support uninterrupted operations. In this position, you will be responsible for formulating and implementing refractory strategies across various plant units such as SMS, LF, BOF/EAF, CCM, BF, LDP, Mills, and the Power plant. It will be crucial to plan refractory requirements in alignment with production targets and develop vendor strategies to ensure quality, timely delivery, and cost efficiency from both indigenous and global suppliers. Your duties will include supervising refractory installation, gunning, ramming, and relining activities for furnaces, ladles, tundishes, and other equipment. Monitoring refractory consumption, wear patterns, and campaign life of critical vessels like BOF/EAF, LF, RH, and CCM tundish will be essential. Coordination with Production & Maintenance teams will also be necessary to minimize downtime resulting from refractory issues. You will be expected to analyze refractory performance data, introduce best practices and innovative technologies, conduct failure analysis, and implement corrective measures. Cost optimization without compromising quality, inventory control, and people management including training and development of refractory engineers, supervisors, and contract workforce will be key aspects of your responsibilities. Ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and statutory guidelines during refractory handling, storage, and usage will be critical. Implementation of safe working procedures for hot repair and relining jobs will also fall under your purview. To be eligible for this role, you should hold a B.Tech/M.Tech in Ceramic Engineering or Metallurgy and have at least 15-20 years of experience in refractory management within steel plant operations, specifically in areas like BOF/EAF, LF, and CCM.
