Position Title: Safety Officer Location: Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh (Iron Ore Mines & Beneficiation Units) Department: QHSE / Operations Reporting To: Safety Head / Mines Manager / Plant Head Employment Type: Full-Time (On-Site) 1. Role Objective The Safety Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety systems, policies, and procedures to ensure a safe working environment across mining and beneficiation operations. The incumbent will lead site-level safety initiatives, enforce statutory compliance as per the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) and Factories Act norms, and build a proactive safety culture within the organization. 2. Key Responsibilities A. Policy & SOP Management Draft, review, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all high-risk mining and plant activities (blasting, excavation, crushing, screening, beneficiation, material handling, etc.). Develop site-specific Safety Policies , Permit-to-Work systems , and Emergency Response Plans . Periodically update and standardize safety documentation in line with DGMS circulars, ISO 45001, and internal audits. Maintain the Safety Management Plan for all mine and plant sites. B. Compliance & Legal Requirements Ensure compliance with statutory safety requirements under the Mines Act, Factories Act, and Environmental Protection Act. Liaise with DGMS, Pollution Control Board, and local authorities for inspections and reporting. Maintain up-to-date documentation for safety audits, inspection registers, and accident records. Conduct regular compliance checks for use of PPEs, fire systems, and electrical safety standards. C. Safety Training & Awareness Conduct induction and refresher training for employees, contractors, and visitors on safety practices. Organize toolbox talks , safety drills, and awareness campaigns to strengthen the safety culture. Identify training needs based on risk assessment and incident trends. Lead Safety Committee meetings and follow up on action items. D. Inspection, Audits & Risk Assessment Perform daily site inspections and hazard identification (unsafe act/condition reporting). Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Risk Assessments for critical tasks. Implement Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) and ensure observation reporting is tracked and closed. Support internal and external safety audits and ensure corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) are implemented. E. Incident Management Investigate all near misses, minor and major incidents, and prepare Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reports. Recommend preventive measures and ensure recurrence control. Maintain the Incident Database and report to management and DGMS as per statutory timelines. Lead emergency response and ensure all fire-fighting, first aid, and rescue systems are in working order. F. Coordination & Reporting Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and HR teams for cross-functional safety improvements. Prepare and submit Monthly Safety Performance Reports including LTI, TRIR, and incident trends. Track and analyze safety KPIs and recommend strategic improvements. Support management reviews for ISO 45001 or internal QHSE compliance audits. 3. Qualifications & Experience Education: Diploma / Degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Mining / Industrial Safety preferred) Additional qualification: Diploma in Industrial Safety (recognized under Factories Act / DGMS rules) Experience: 5–10 years in Safety Management within mining / mineral processing / heavy industrial operations Hands-on knowledge of DGMS safety standards and environmental compliance. Certifications: ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001 Auditor (preferred) First Aid, Fire Safety, and Emergency Response training desirable. 4. Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of Mines Act , DGMS guidelines , and OHS Regulations . Analytical mindset for incident investigation and risk mitigation. Excellent communication and training delivery skills. Leadership capability to drive safety culture across all levels. Proficiency in MS Office, audit documentation, and safety reporting tools. 5. Work Environment Based at mine and plant sites around Jabalpur; frequent field visits. Extended working hours during shutdowns, inspections, or audits. Coordination with multi-location teams and external regulators. 6.
