Skill Required For The Fitter. 3D Visualization: It presents the complex piping system in a single view, making it easier to visualize the pipe's layout, unlike flat plan or elevation views. Pipe Details: It indicates the pipe's size, material (e.g., carbon steel, stainless steel), and connections such as elbows, flanges, and valves. Dimensions: Although not to scale, it includes precise measurements for lengths and angles, essential for fabrication. Component Symbols: Standardized symbols represent fittings, valves, and connections, with specific codes for identification. Flow Direction: Arrows on the lines show the direction of fluid flow within the system. How a fitter uses it Interpretation of Symbols: The fitter reads and understands the symbols for pipes, fittings, valves, and other components to identify them in the real world. Fabrication: They use the dimensions and angles on the isometric drawing to accurately cut, bend, and fit pipe segments (spools) in the workshop or directly on-site. Installation: The drawing serves as a guide for the precise assembly and installation of the fabricated pipes and components into the larger system. Material Verification: The fitter checks the material specifications on the drawing to ensure the correct materials are used for the installation. Field Fit-up: For connections that are welded in the field (field fit-up welds or FFWs), the drawing indicates the necessary extra length to be added to the pipe cut, a detail the fitter must be aware of.
Key Responsibilities Installation: Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, wiring, control panels, and lighting for industrial machinery. Maintenance & Repair: Perform routine preventive maintenance, diagnose and troubleshoot electrical problems, and repair or replace faulty wiring, equipment, and fixtures using hand and power tools. Troubleshooting: Utilize testing devices to identify and resolve electrical issues in a timely and effective manner. Safety & Compliance: Ensure all work complies with electrical codes, standards, and regulations, and implement safety protocols to protect workers. Documentation: Keep accurate records of all maintenance, repair work, and materials used. System Upgrades: Incorporate new technology to enhance efficiency and productivity by upgrading systems and incorporating sensors. Required Skills & Qualifications Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, power generation, electrical safety, and technical documents like blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams. Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and solve practical problems, troubleshoot complex systems, and make sound decisions based on technical data. Physical Stamina: Capable of performing physically demanding tasks such as crawling, climbing, and standing for long periods. Qualifications for pipefitter Minimum 4 years’ experience required in pipe fitting and pipe welding work Ability to read design drawings and diagrams is required Experience working with a variety of pipe materials and history of certification in welding is preferred Cold weather welding experience is preferred Must pass a 6G weld certification exam prior to deployment SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW welding certificates strongly preferred Set up equipment, select torch tip, flux and brazing alloy from data charts or work orders Fabricating pipe pools from isometric drawing information Fabricating pipe supports from structural drawing information Installing prefabricate pipe spools and supports from general arrangement and isometric drawings Carrying out all fabrication and installation activities in relation to specific discipline Layout, install, test, adjust, and maintain several types of piping systems and allied equipment such as pumps, heat exchangers, chemical feed systems, filters Perform new installations of plumbing and steam equipment from laying-out, ordering materials, roughing-in, and finishing work Perform preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance on a variety of piping systems and allied equipment such as compressors, vacuum pumps, strainers, grease traps, steam traps, meters, regulating valves. Previous 6G pipe weld certification at time of hire is required You will provide occasional duties as assigned within skill level You will assure that each assignment has sufficient tools, materials and supplies You will determine repairs and replacements of equipment as needed You will prioritize work for specific jobs assigned You will be responsible for planning work as assigned, assuring a high quality of the finished product
