Key Responsibilities: Equipment Preparation and Maintenance: Anesthesia technicians prepare anesthesia machines, check gas tanks, sterilize equipment, and ensure all necessary supplies are available before, during, and after procedures. Patient Monitoring: They monitor vital signs like heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation during anesthesia, communicating any changes to the medical team. Assisting with Anesthesia Administration: They may assist with tasks like intubation, ventilation, and administering medications, as directed by the anesthesiologist. Post-Operative Care: Anesthesia technicians may assist with the patient's emergence from anesthesia, removing airway devices, and transferring them to post-operative care units. Maintaining a Safe Environment: They ensure the operating room is a safe environment by monitoring for leaks of medical gases and maintaining proper infection control protocols. Inventory Management: They may manage the inventory of anesthesia supplies, ensuring adequate stock is available. Troubleshooting Equipment: Anesthesia technicians are trained to identify and troubleshoot malfunctions with anesthesia equipment.
