They must be able to interpret complex engineering drawings and work closely with automation engineers and technicians to ensure precision, reliability, and safety in a high-tech manufacturing environment. Roles and responsibilities Mechanical assembly and installation: Assemble and install mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment according to technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications. Fabrication and modification: Use hand and power tools, and sometimes welding equipment, to cut, shape, and fit materials to create and modify components as needed. Robotics and automated systems: Assist in the installation, start-up, and commissioning of industrial robots, conveyors, and other automated systems under the supervision of senior technicians. Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues that may have mechanical, electrical, or pneumatic origins. System testing: Conduct tests to ensure that all assembled and repaired equipment is functioning correctly and safely according to established performance standards. Safety and quality control: Adhere to all health, safety, and quality control regulations, such as lockout/tagout procedures and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) in pharmaceutical settings. Collaboration: Work effectively with a team of engineers and electricians, to solve mechanical and automation-related problems. Educational qualifications Education and training: A diploma, certification from an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in the Fitter trade, or an equivalent qualification is generally required. Technical aptitude: Strong mechanical and technical skills, with a solid understanding of mechanical systems and components. Blueprint interpretation: The ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints. Tool proficiency: Expertise in using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments. Physical stamina: Good physical fitness and manual dexterity to perform physically demanding tasks and work in confined spaces. Experience: Previous experience as a mechanical or industrial fitter, particularly in a manufacturing or automation environment, is often preferred. Safety consciousness: A strong commitment to workplace safety and a thorough understanding of safety protocols.
