Walmart Global Tech seeks a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design and deployment of scalable Generative AI and Agentic AI solutions, leveraging large language models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and autonomous agents to enhance associate and customer experiences. The role involves building production-grade microservices, optimizing AI models, mentoring teams, and driving innovation in areas like conversational AI and operational efficiency, requiring expertise in Python, AI frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), and event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka), with a focus on delivering measurable business impact.

What you ll do

AI System Design & Development: Lead the architecture, development, and deployment of Gen AI and Agentic AI solutions, including LLMs (e.g., GPT, Gemini), RAG frameworks, and multi-modal models (text, image, video) for applications like knowledge retrieval, summarization, and dynamic real-time responses.

Agentic Frameworks: Design and implement autonomous AI agents that utilize vector search technologies, prompt engineering, and orchestration to perform complex, multi-step tasks, such as automating business processes or enhancing conversational AI platforms.

Platform Engineering: Build reusable, scalable, and extensible microservices (e.g., using Fast API) and event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka, WebSocket) to support Gen AI platforms, ensuring high performance and reliability.

Model Optimization: Fine-tune and optimize Gen AI models for specific business needs using techniques like quantization, distillation, and prompt engineering to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, machine learning engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders, to translate requirements into technical solutions and prioritize impactful AI-driven products.

Technical Leadership: Mentor junior and senior engineers, conduct code reviews, and set high standards for engineering excellence, including adherence to DRY (Don t Repeat Yourself) principles and CI/CD automation.

Operational Excellence: Support production operations through on-call rotations, troubleshoot high-impact issues, and ensure system scalability, availability, and performance in distributed environments.

Innovation & Research: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in Gen AI and Agentic AI, collaborate with applied researchers to integrate cutting-edge research into applications, and contribute to thought leadership within Walmart and the broader tech community
What you ll bring:

Exceptional proficiency in Python, with experience writing high-performing, production-quality code in a Pythonic way.

Hands-on experience designing and building Python-based web services in production settings.

Strong expertise in Generative AI models (e.g., GPT, Gemini) and their fine-tuning, including familiarity with RAG frameworks and agentic AI systems.

Proficiency with machine learning tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, CUDA, and related frameworks/libraries.

Experience with microservices architecture (e.g., Fast API) and event-driven systems (e.g., Kafka, SSE, WebSocket).

Familiarity with version control using Git in collaborative settings.

Knowledge of large-scale data pipelines in domains like e-commerce, recommender systems, or online advertising.

Expertise in VM Orchestrator, proficiency in automation tools and strong capabilities in managing virtual machine lifecycles, resource allocation, and workload optimization.

In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes architecture and container orchestration, proficiency with tools like Helm and expertise in CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native technologies to ensure scalable, resilient application deployment

Experience with multi-modal models (text, image, video) and advanced optimization techniques (e.g., quantization, distillation).

Proficiency in platform integration using React, React Native, Node.js, Java, Spring Boot, and data structures like Cosmos DB, Graph DB, SQL Server, Kafka, or GraphQL APIs.

Contributions to open-source projects or publications in Gen AI, RAG, or agentic frameworks - preferred

Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, GCP) and deploying LLM projects using tools like LangChain, Promptflow, or vector databases.
