Job Description

Job Summary

The ICU Staff Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. The nurse ensures continuous monitoring, timely intervention, and compassionate care to stabilize and support the patients vital functions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Care

Monitor and assess vital signs, level of consciousness, and clinical condition of ICU patients.
Administer prescribed medications and IV fluids accurately and on time.
Maintain airway, breathing, and circulation through necessary procedures (oxygen therapy, suctioning, etc.).
Assist with intubation, ventilation management, and other critical procedures.
Provide total nursing care, including hygiene, nutrition, and comfort measures.

2. Clinical Responsibilities

Perform accurate documentation of patient status, treatment, and progress in records or EMR.
Operate and maintain ICU equipment such as ventilators, defibrillators, infusion pumps, and monitors.
Assist doctors during rounds, procedures, and emergencies.
Follow infection control and patient safety protocols strictly.

3. Emergency Management

Respond promptly to cardiac arrest, code blue, or other emergency situations.
Perform basic and advanced life support (BLS/ACLS) as required.
Prepare emergency drugs and equipment.

4. Communication & Coordination

Communicate effectively with doctors, other nurses, and multidisciplinary teams regarding patient care.
Provide updates and education to patient relatives as per hospital policy.
Handover patient information accurately during shift changes.

5. Administrative & Supportive Roles

Maintain adequate stock of drugs, supplies, and equipment in the ICU.
Participate in staff meetings, training, and continuous education programs.
Adhere to hospital policies, ethical standards, and confidentiality norms.
