Staff Engineer, Cloud Platform (Kafka)

As a Cloud Platform Engineer at Calix based in Bangalore, India, you will play a crucial role in designing and building large-scale Cloud Infrastructure Platforms and managing the Kafka Infrastructure to enable the delivery of world-class products with high availability, reliability, security, and performance expected by customers. Your innovative solutions will help Calix products thrive. **Responsibilities:** - Design, build, and maintain a scalable and reliable Kafka solution using KRaft, Strimzi, Zookeeper, etc. - Implement integration with KRaft and Strimzi for coordination and leader election. - Automate the entire lifecycle of platform components from provisioning through decommissioning. - Solve problems related to building a global Kafka architecture considering scalability, replication, schema registries, and self-service IaC workflows. - Ensure Observability is an integral part of the infrastructure platforms for health, utilization, and cost visibility. - Build Cloud native CI/CD pipelines, tools, and automation for developer autonomy and productivity improvement. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams, educate them through documentation/training, and improve platform/tool adoption. - Provide technical leadership, conduct code reviews, mentor junior developers, and emphasize modern software development practices. - Collaborate with other team leads to raise the bar of engineering excellence across the organization. **Requirements:** - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience. - 10+ years of experience in building large scale distributed systems in an always available production environment. - 5+ years of experience in building Infrastructure Platforms and CI/CD pipelines in a major public cloud provider, preferably GCP. - Strong skills in designing integration solutions using Kafka, Kafka ecosystem, KRaft, Strimzi, Zookeeper, etc. - Experience with In-memory applications, Data Integration, SQL connector, HTTP connector, Kafka deployment and configuration. - Proficiency in Kubernetes and its ecosystem, observability platforms/tools, Python, Golang, or similar languages. - Proven experience in leading major initiatives, coaching, and mentoring junior engineers. - Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
