osition Summary As a Staff Data Scientist at Walmart Global Tech, you will lead complex data science initiatives that drive actionable insights and scalable solutions across Walmart's retail and finance divisions. You will oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of multiple machine learning projectstranslating business needs into analytical solutions, developing advanced AI/ML models, and deploying them to production at scale. About the EBS Team Enterprise Business Services (EBS) builds robust technology and service solutions for Walmart's finance, people, and digital experience functions. The Data Science team within EBS applies cutting-edge machine learning, statistical analysis, and optimization techniques to solve critical business problems. We leverage petabytes of data and work closely with engineering teams to build scalable ML pipelines and reference architectures that optimize operations, enhance customer experiences, and innovate business practices. What You Will Do Lead and execute multiple data science projects involving advanced statistical modeling, machine learning, and AI aligned with business priorities. Design, build, and deploy scalable ML and AI models for fraud detection, forecasting, inventory management, price optimization, and recommendation systems. Collaborate with data engineers, business partners, and product teams to gather requirements, validate data quality, and translate insights into business actions. Serve as a technical leader and mentor to data scientists across sub-domains, ensuring timely delivery and adoption of ML best practices and MLOps. Drive innovation in AI/ML methodologies, including Gen-AI applications such as embedding generation, vector search, LLM agent development, and prompt engineering. Evaluate and prioritize business cases, identify gaps and opportunities, and propose scalable data-driven solutions. Partner with senior management to shape the data science strategy and domain-wide efficiency improvements. What You Will Bring Educational Qualifications: Master's degree with 10+ years, or Ph.D. with 8+ years of relevant experience in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field. Technical Expertise: Proven experience as a technical lead managing multiple data science projects end-to-end. Deep knowledge of ML techniques including classification, regression, NLP, forecasting, unsupervised learning, graph ML, causal inference, and experimentation. Hands-on experience with Gen-AI technologies: embedding generation, vector databases, LLM gateways, retrieval-augmented generation, model tuning, and monitoring. Proficient in Python, PySpark, R, and experience with big data platforms like Hadoop, Hive, Scala. Familiarity with cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform, Azure), Vertex AI, Kubeflow, and GPU/CUDA acceleration for scalable ML deployment. Leadership & Collaboration: Strong communication skills with ability to influence stakeholders and guide technical teams.
