Department: IT Infrastructure / Database Administration Reports To: Lead System Administrator / IT Manager Job Summary: We are looking for an experienced SQL Server DBA Level 2 who will be responsible for managing, monitoring, maintaining, and supporting our SQL Server infrastructure, including high-availability environments, SQL OS-level setups, patching, and Azure Synapse workloads. The ideal candidate should also be proficient with Rubrik backup solutions, have a strong grasp of database performance monitoring, and be capable of operating independently in critical environments. Key Responsibilities: Database Administration: Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances across production, QA, and development. Manage database objects (schemas, indexes, views, stored procedures). Perform root cause analysis and troubleshoot incidents. SQL Server OS Installation & Patching: Perform Windows Server installation and configuration specific to SQL Server needs. Carry out SQL Server installation, instance setup, and feature configuration. Plan and apply SQL Server Cumulative Updates and Service Packs in accordance with compliance and change control. High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Configure and maintain Always On Availability Groups, Failover Cluster Instances (FCI), Log Shipping, and Database Mirroring. Regular testing and documentation of DR strategy and recovery procedures. Cloud & Azure Synapse: Manage and support Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL Databases, and integration pipelines. Work with Azure Monitor, Alerts, and Performance Tuning in Synapse and SQL PaaS. Backup & Restore: Manage backups using Rubrik and native SQL Server tools. Perform scheduled restore tests and ensure backup compliance with RTO/RPO targets. Monitoring & Maintenance: Proactively monitor databases for performance, space, blocking, deadlocks, and long-running queries. Use tools like SentryOne, SolarWinds, SQL native DMVs, or equivalent. Automate maintenance tasks: index rebuilds, statistics updates, integrity checks. Security & Compliance: Maintain database security: roles, permissions, encryption, auditing. Ensure adherence to internal compliance and external audit requirements. Collaboration: Work closely with application and infra teams during releases, upgrades, and maintenance. Participate in on-call rotation and handle after-hours emergencies or patch windows. Required Skills & Experience: 5+ years of hands-on SQL Server DBA experience. Strong in SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 administration. Proven experience with OS-level installation and SQL Server patching. Working knowledge of Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL services. Experience with Rubrik or other enterprise backup tools. Knowledge of PowerShell and T-SQL for automation and maintenance. Practical experience in HA/DR implementation. Exposure to performance tuning, database health checks, and space management. Preferred Qualifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or equivalent. Experience in hybrid cloud environments (on-prem + Azure). Knowledge of scripting in CI/CD environments using Git, DevOps, or Azure Repos. Work Conditions: Should Available during 2PM IST to 10PM IST and On-call rotation support as per schedule. What you 'll do: Handle day to day cloud operations and ensure timely resolution of any technical issues or escalations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. 3-5 years of extensive experience in infrastructure implementation, Automation, deployment, documenting and maintenance of Client/Server, Web based applications in multi - tiered architecture, Internet/Intranet infrastructure and clustered environments. Hands-on experience in cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS. Good understanding of CI/CD concepts and practices (Jenkins/Gitlab). Experienced with Cloud (AWS or Azure) IaaS/PaaS Configuration and Administration of cloud Resources. Strong understanding of commonly used cloud services like WAF, SQL PaaS, AKS/EKS, ACR/ECR, API Management etc. Knowledge and experience with working on scripting languages like Python, PowerShell, or Golang. Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes. Familiarity with DevOps practices, Security Compliance and Vulnerability. Implementation, Maintenance and troubleshooting of Existing IT Infrastructure Environment including Application gateway, firewall management, Load balancing, VPN etc. Good knowledge on Active Directory, disaster recovery and backup solution. Excellent troubleshooting skills on Windows and Linux operating system. Basic Networking skills related to DNS & domain management. Awareness of ITIL Framework. Any AWS/Azure Cloud certifications.
