This position is based in Sydney, Australia at the School of Physics, which is recognized as one of the leading Physics schools in Australia. As a Research Associate (Level A) at UNSW, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the research efforts of the university and enhance your research expertise through defined projects relevant to your field of research. About the Role: - Salary: Level A ($110k - $117k) plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading - Employment Type: Fixed Term for 18 months - Work Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week) - Reporting to: Professor Dimi Culcer - No direct reports Responsibilities: - Independently or as part of a team, contribute to collaborative research focusing on enhancing the quality of research outcomes in theoretical solid state physics. - Conduct research aligned with the discipline's norms and/or support research teams in producing scholarly output recognized by peers. - Undertake specific research projects under the guidance of a research leader and contribute to research activities" development. - Disseminate research outcomes through appropriate channels and outlets. - Engage in discipline-appropriate research activities such as surveys, literature reviews, data gathering, and recording results using suitable research methods. - Participate in conferences and workshops relevant to the project and present as required. - Assist in supervising research students when necessary. - Conduct independent research in theoretical solid state physics. - Collaborate with experimental researchers at UNSW, as well as domestically and internationally. - Align with and demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values. - Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures to maintain personal and others" well-being. Successful Applicant (Selection Criteria): - Hold a PhD in a related discipline or possess relevant work experience. - Show a commitment to staying updated with discipline knowledge and developments, particularly in non-equilibrium physics, spin- and orbital angular momentum-related phenomena in solids. - Strong analytical and numerical skills. - Ability to conduct high-quality academic research independently with minimal supervision. - Track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity. - Team player with cross-disciplinary collaboration skills and relationship-building abilities. - Highly developed interpersonal skills and communication proficiency with diverse stakeholders and students. - Understand and support UNSW's aims, objectives, values, policies, and guidelines. - Awareness of health and safety responsibilities and willingness to attend relevant training.
