Software Development Manager

You will be the Software Development Manager leading a team of skilled engineers in the development of eLxr, a Debian derivative focused on offering a new Edge to Core solution for Linux users. Your role will be instrumental in shaping the direction of the eLxr Linux distribution and ensuring the delivery of a high-quality product that meets user requirements. As an experienced leader, you will provide guidance and mentorship to team members, make strategic decisions, and oversee the entire software development lifecycle. Collaboration with a team of passionate engineers dedicated to Linux and open-source software will be a key aspect of this role. The team values transparency, open communication, and continuous learning, with a proven track record of delivering impactful products. Your responsibilities will include technical leadership where you will lead the team in designing, developing, testing, and deploying eLxr. Additionally, you will contribute to the review of merge requests to uphold best practices and efficiency in the review process. Project management duties will involve defining project scope, goals, and timelines, managing project tasks, allocating resources, and ensuring effective communication among team members. Collaboration with cross-functional teams such as Product, QA, Documentation, and Support will be essential to ensure a cohesive product. Building strong relationships with the Debian community and upstream maintainers is crucial for the timely adoption of new features and bug fixes. Risk management, quality assurance, and financial management are also part of your responsibilities to ensure successful project delivery. To qualify for this role, you should hold a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 10 years of software development experience with a focus on Linux and at least 5 years of experience in managing engineering teams is required. Strong technical knowledge of Linux, excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills are essential. Experience with Agile methodologies, CI/CD, version control systems, and problem-solving abilities are also necessary. Candidates with experience working with the Debian community, Debian packaging and maintenance, cloud computing tools, and containerization technologies are preferred.
